i'm using project 64 v1.6 on my laptop (definitely not a good idea, because running that turns it into a slow cooker). anyway, i made a fair bit of progress in ocarina of time... again.

the problem is, at random times after i save it using the traditional save system (no save states - i view that as cheating) the game will either load normally and pop me back at the forest with all my newly made game progress.

more often, though, it plonks me back at the forest with the first save i made for the game. i can't understand why this is happening, and it is really frustrating, that i have never completed the game because of this. one time i was able to perform a system restore and restore my save, but i can only put up with that for so long...

    does anybody have any solutions?

I haven't played Ocarina of Time for a while now, but I'm sure if you keep heading back to a place when you reset and load your save, you need to do something there or trigger something elsewhere. I could easily be wrong though. But your problem is definitely weird, maybe you could try backing up your save file and then put it back if something is wrong?

i've tried that - i doubt it is a game problem, though. i'm so far in the game, and then when i load again for no reason i start as if it was almost a new game and i had just found the little pen knife link arms himself with...

i've even copied that save onto my desktop pc and into 1964 - still same thing happening. it's like it restored an old backup or something...

i'll start a new save - again - and see what happens. great the game is, and all, even i can't play it through 5 times getting nowhere.

Could be a bug, try using the Ocarina of Time ROMs that are better, like 1.1 etc.

So it's random whether or not it loads your normal save or your first save? Check our your 1964 save files and make sure you only have one (although it's impossible that 2 files would have the same file name in the same directory, it's interesting that it would mistake them). If I'm misunderstanding, and it sometimes wipes your file and starts you at the beginning, make sure your save file isn't read-only, which would cause your save to be ineffective.

If all else fails, try using PJ64 (Project 64) instead of 1964, just transfer the ROM and save file to work under PJ64's settings.

Oh right, I misinterpreted what he was saying when he mentioned 1964, heh.

ok from what I remember, there's three ways the emulator saves.

one is .eep (this one is the one that's acting up)
    two is .mpk
three is .pj.zip (this one is the savestate)

they're located in the "Project64\Saves" directory.

.eep is probably the one because it acts like a save file on the game cartridge so whenever you save, it writes to that file.
I would suggest clearing those files out completely, and start fresh.
