What country do you live in?

Basically PPPoE and PPPoA are two different methods of connecting to an ADSL connection. One (PPPoE) uses ethernet as the carrier, the other uses ATM. Get the wrong one and your internet connection won't work. the UK uses PPPoA, as far as I'm aware not many if any other countries use it.

Bridging turns the modem into a device that translates ethernet frames into WAN packets and vice versa but does nothing else. It is very unlikely you want this setting (unless you have a dedicated upstream firewall that handles authentication for you).

    i live in India

anyway the man who cane to give this connection told me to select PPPoE , and said that this setting is for connecting to internet without going to NETWORK CONNECTIONS and making a new broadband connection and then clicking connect, but is this possible , taking internet like this ??

OK what he meant was if you use PPPoE, the modem will authenticate for you and your connection will be 'always on' and any computer plugged into the modem will have net access. If you set it to bridging mode, you'll have to set up a connection on your computer, and the computer will handle the authentication (you type in your password and click 'connect'). You would have to do this every time you want to go on the internet, so it is far more convenient to use PPPoE and let the modem handle the authentication (it will also automatically reconnect if the line drops).

not if you're using pppoe on the modem. You need to enter your connection settings in the modem configuration pages.

you'll need to check the service name with your ISP. I'm assuming the user/password are what you were given by your ISP. I would suggest you tick 'enable ppp keepalives' and untick 'bridge pppoe frames between wan and local ports'

the password and username was given by ISP. :)

and is the service name necessary ??

what does the above mentioned do ?
the service man didnt do these when he came here

I don't know if the service name is necessary or not, if the service man didn't fill it in probably not.

ppp keepalives periodically pings a server when your internet isn't being used, to prevent the connection timing out.

Bridging pppoe frames means that your computer will have to deal with pppoe rather than just plain ethernet.
