Well you need the actual game to use A Pokewalker.

Oh yeah, the only thing the walker is good for is

-exp (not good for EV trainers)
-Happiness levels
-Finding items (though a zigzagoon or another pokemon with the ability "pickup" does the trick)
-Making you exercise (seriously-when I'm at work I'd make any pokemon lvl 100 in a week but else where it would take decades to get to lvl 10)

 

I think the Pokewalker is actually kinda useless.

You can also catch Pokemon with it.

Was it Tested with Pokewalker: CONFIRMED

According to Bobykid, the PokéWalker works with the Soul Silver Rom. I guess it is the same with Heart Gold.

 

The SS/HG cartridge has some sort of infrared transmitter it uses to communicate with Pokewalker, so unless someone makes a new cartridge with a similar device, you'll have to own the real thing.

..it's possible that reports confirming it works could be made up just to mess people around, like people making fake custom firmware for psp's that do nothing/brick them

 

It is pretty hard to believe that Pokewalker works with the ROM.
