Pokemon Video Game Championship Pokemon Tournament Locations Announced http://ds.ign.com/articles/107/1077260p1.html Anyone plan on going? and to which location? Also, anyone here have any idea on what the rules will be? last year it was double battles with platinum version. This year it will be using Heart Gold soul silver (legit copies) and no Altered pokemon such as AR'd or any kind of hacked pokemon allowed and if your caught you won't be able to join. Also, the pokemon you registered are the only ones you can use along with one kind of item per pokemon. Heres last years Tournament Pokemon VGC 2009 San Francisco Regional Seniors Final http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf-WeOcAIJY&feature=related Pokemon VGC 2009 Dallas Regional Seniors Final http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdzQJ98Pssg If your a really big competitive battler then you should try for the Pokemon VGC oh and if you attend.. you'll get a shiny eevee from the event and alot of cool swag, it's free to go and visit by the way.
Darn. US and legit copies? I read the link and wtf? $35 for the game? In Australia it's like $100 for Pokemon HG/SS
Incorrect, it's $59.95 AUD for a copy at eb games, cheaper in some places, or $10 more in others. And not many of us romU members would be any good, I been to some of the nintendo connection tours, the people in the top 20 all ev train, to not ev train is sheer luck. I think only Suis would have a chance out of us, but I don't know of many other skilled pokemon players.
I'm sure alot of people can do good, you just gotta play smart and know what your doing and have a really good ev'd team which isn't very hard to do if you plan everything. Also, breeding for the right natures and whatnot.
The last part is also thrown in with ev training, what good can a good moveset is when a gengar that's set so it makes you sleep in it's first move and only misses 25% of the time, this is what took out my team of 3 without me hitting it once. I tried the same thing (except this gengar was balanced) yet what I went agaisnt was built to NOT sleep, damn berries The rest of the team died preety quickly, a garchomp made to kill instantly thrown me out
You should have a pokemon with lum berry and taunt would given that gengar some problems. Also, substitute is a very good move to screw up hypnosis Hypnos. Garchomp( uber btw ) is pretty cheap, but having some pokemon hold focus sach( assuming he doesn't have stealthrocks up) can turn the tide of battle, and allow to strike back, of course if stealthrocks are up you wan't to get rid of it with rapid spin and that taunt I said before could have prevented it. Anyway, there are alot of possabilitiesof that outcome, but I won't get into that since thats not what this threads about, but thats not to discouraged you or anyone from going and having fun, but if you do want to try to win it's not hard to ev train and breed for a pokemon. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/EV-enhancing_item Oh by the way it's 40%chance of missing now not 25%
Rules for this year are L50 double battles, as always - but since Flat Battle is now an official ruleset you can now use Pokemon such as Dragonite and any moves that are learned above L50. This is good. I'm pretty meh on the legendaries that are permitted though. Suis' predictions for 2010: expect a lot of Specs Kyogre, Life Orb/Expert Belt Mewtwo and just any Rayquaza. Also, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Scizor might make a surprise entry into the usage stats. You heard it here first, folks. Maybe. I'd venture to say insanecrazy is as much a contender as me. We haven't battled though, so I can't confirm it. Anyway, the guys that take out the Worlds title are massively skilled. I'm no pushover, but these guys can easily make me look like a casual, especially in Doubles. Point is moot though, I'm not going to be in the States. If they had an Oceania tournament I'd definitely be there.
I think (if what I saw in the nintendo connection tours happens in a bigger event) legends may be barred, may (been ages though so memory is hazy). Well I only guessed your skill from word of mouth, so now I know... If you guys vs'd each other, please record it and show us your skills
Only a few legendaries are barred, the other ones are limited to 2/6 pokemon: As for a vs match, I'm just waiting till I can catch him on IRC so we can swap FCs. It will certainly go up, though.
cool, I might go, but i'm not sure yet since I need a job and if I get a job I might not be able to go..... man it sucks I been wanting to go to one of these for a very long time now.. I really wanna go and just have fun, but of course now that I know it's doubles I guess I can start practicing with random players.
Ha, the only reason I haven't been on IRC much is because I keep forgetting to hit up Chatzilla. lol My current fascination is the UU tier, since we both pretty much agreed the OU tier is broken due to Scizor. I've seen enough CB Scizors and damn Lucarios, and Tyranitars on PBR to be completely sick of that tier. UU allows me to be more creative with setups, especially making tanks and stallers actually viable. It is actually my creativity and obscure setups that allow me to sweep my opponent's OU teams because they're tailored to counter OU threats, not UU threats, and the fact that they've never seen a Swellow sweep 3 pokemon before...My rule for BL pokemon is that they're automatically placed in the highest tier that they borderline. For example, Crobat used to be UU, but is now BL, therefore, it would be considered the next tier up, OU. Raikou used to be BL, but is now officially UU, therefore it stays in UU. As far as the VGC '10, I would do HORRIBLE here, simply because there's two types of play I don't use and HATE playing. Doubles, and Ubers. Put them together and it's a total mess. Every strategy I use comes from single battles. Once I move into Doubles, it's basically a Rain Dance, Toxicroak Dry Skin with Surfs hitting it repeatedly until the other team falls. Or it's a Zapdos/Garchomp fest with Discharge and Earthquake. The strategies are completely different and what works in Singles, does HORRIBLY in doubles, and vice versa. Stack on Ubers and now you got what Suis was talking about, Specs Kyogre coupled with some sort of Water Absorber, damn Mewtwos and whatnot, and of course, they ban the one pokemon that I ABUSE in Ubers. Timid Darkrai using Dark Void with a Focus Sash. LOL If I were to actually compete, I'd have to brush up on the mechanics for breeding and EV training (as far as the new hotspots are in HGSS). It's so much easier to just type in a few numbers and be done, even if it does involve PID/IV trial and error. If I were to turn in my copy (pretending it's a real cart, I mean damn, I can nc.exe the damn sav file back and forth, remember...) of HGSS right now (or Platinum because that's where all of my competition pokes are), they'd scan it and find absolutely no evidence of hacking, when in reality, the entire save file is pretty much filled with hacks. This would definitely be a moral issue on my part, but then again, there's probably many people who try to get in and are caught. I predict that this competition will be totally broken with all of the Ubers running around, and since Scizor is absolutely wonderful in the Uber field (it has its own Uber setup...), it's usage will skyrocket even more than it already is in the OU metagame. It's only logical...you make one tiny (or in this case, big) change, and you cause multiple unintended consequences. If Scizor were to be voted Uber, it would not only change the Uber metagame to accomodate for the shift, but also the OU tier. With the absence of Garchomp, there was less of a need for something to pack Ice Beam (note: Blissey without Ice Beam), and with Scizor, there will be less of a need for Flamethrower or HP Fire, and can be used for something else, like dealing with Tyranitar and Lucario.
scizor is gonna be more of a pain in 5th gen.. That damn pokemon is everywhere now.. and i'm really annoyed that people use scizor and talk shit on serebii about owning. Anyway, yes that Tourney will be broken as hell, but not one VGC team Final or sem-final had a single uber, so i'm sure people will find a way to break through these teams with trickroom, and whatnot.
too bad this isnt happening in malaysia, otherwise, this is a perfect place to test my pokesav skill.
If I can get a ride, the nearest place is Seattle for me. (I live in Oregon). I'm kind of a noob when it comes to competitive battling, but I've been researching and watching a lot of videos. The only thing is I need to get a legitimate copy of Heart Gold. I have Diamond, but it sucks they only allow HG or SS. I know a place that sells it for like 32$, so I need to make money this week, considering the event is May 8th. :| I had a competitive single team that I never used, but when I posted it on marriland, people said it was pretty good. Hopefully I can practice till then and if I go to the event, see you guys there!
