so do i use the save in the pause menu? or is there a special way i'm supposed to save it

There should be a option called SAVE when you bring up the menu by pressing "X" I believe it is.

There is only one save file, and it will ask if you want to overwrite that save, Yes or No.

yeah, i opened that and i saved it.
both times i haven't left my room.
when i re open the game, it starts me over.

What are you using to play the game (flashcart/emulator) and what version of firmware/emulator? Try saving twice each time.

i'm using the 2.6 version of whatever you said to use to play it.
and i'm not sure what firmware is. i just tried saving twice last time

Try using 2.6a (the latest version). A link can be found in the Common Issues. https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?topic=1462.0

To save, you have to exit the emulator after the process of saving then starting it up back again.

first, go to emulation setup then set something below left to 512 kbutz..that should play it..

2.6a uses Auto detect so no need.

i have to exit the emulator after i save?
cause every time i save, i closed the emulator and then opened it back up and i still couldn't play the game i just saved, had to start over

Yes, the save-file is properly created/updated when you exit the emulator, reload the current ROM, or load another ROM. Try this, go to your NO$GBA.INI configuration file in your no$gba directory, open it, and find the line SAV/SNA File Format == Compressed, and change it to SAV/SNA File Format == Uncompressed.

i have no idea where to find my NO$GBA.INI configuration file is.
is it before i open the emulator?

It is in the folder that has your emulator.

all i have in there is the emulator and a thing that says read me.
and i read through that and it doesn't say anything about it

Make sure you have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unticked in Folder Options. It is NO$GBA.INI.

I think No$GBA.ini is not created until you choose to Save Emulation Settings in the setup menu. Otherwise it just loads program defaults without using the INI file.

That is correct. The 2.6a archive only contains the executable and readme file, as I suggested for the user to use that instead, he/she has not even run the emulator yet (which automatically creates other files/folders, BATTERY, SLOT, etc.). =\

    ? i've ran the emulator.
    i have played the game.
and the only files i have are the emulator itself and the readme.
i tried searching NO$GBA.INI in my computer and nothing came up.
i don't understand how to find this NO$GBA.INI

In order for No$GBA to make the NO$GBA.INI file you have to choose Save Emulation Settings under the setup menu.

(I'm not sure if that's 100% the correct wording, but it should be something similar to that).

Then that file will be created.
