to stop our bandwidth bills getting so high we can't afford to run the site. We already pay about $3,000 a month, so be grateful that we run the site at all.
For the record, making short posts that have virtually nothing to do with the original topic isn't going to get you on my good side. Beyond that, welcome.
to avoid greedy users to download again and again. are you making an introduction? this doesn't look like one. if it is then, welcome to romU. enjoy the community. Don't question the point system! worship Seph and Loony!
The points are not going to shoo off greedy people, unless they are just after ISOs alot of people have been comming for DS games and seeing alot of them are point free thus you get the pokemon type syndrome of "gotta get 'em all" Oh and Welcome Deeman and word to the wise from the Madman, you might want to read the rules sometime.
Yeah, the point system is a great way. But some games are 0 points, i noticed. And i was thinking, another way to get money would be to start a fundraiser? To see how many people would donate to you guys? I bet alot would, since this website seems like a great way to get Roms.
I think of it as an allowance. That way, I get way more excited when I have enough to get a game, Lol.
I like the point system, but unless I missed something, it seems like it was just changed without notice. I could be completely wrong, but I thought it was anything under 100MB was free, and then anything over was 1 point per MB OVER 100... Now it's the 50 or under, but anything over and its the full size, not the extra size. Am I wrong? I mean, I have been here for quite a while, and it definately won't effect me since because of my time here, and the previous system (If I'm not wrong, which I could be) but it seems like a serious blow to any newcomer who would want to download some newer DS games, as the full price will rack up very quickly for anything over 50. Thats 5-10 DS roms if that, then they have to wait 2 days before they can download a single large DS game under 100MB... Just did a quick check, the largest DS game is around 230MB, so that takes up near half their starting points in one hit. With the old system, you could get most DS games, and you'd run out at 500 if you went on a spree of larger DS games. I mean, I understand bandwidth needs to be cut down, it's just I went to download a game and it said "points 52" for a 52 MB game, and it sort of confused me for a second. Did I miss a news announcement? Am I really stupid and it's always been this way and I haven't noticed it? Or was there a ninja change? Because even if this was changed, that's fine, but it would not be cool if it was changed without any sort of notice to people.
No, it has never been like that. It used to be games over 75MB cost full price in points, and games under 75MB were free, but we changed it to 50MB about a year ago.
THen I stand corrected. I guess the change from the old site to the new made me finally notice was was always the norm... I wonder why I had thought the rules were like that then. I guess I was just being absent minded.
