I am new to all this forum and emulation stuff, i realise that whoever reads this is gona think "what is she doing here". However i have throughly searched the forums to no avail. The question i have is to do with the R4 cards, as i have no trouble in the downloads section, only that no point have been deducted? My console of choice is a NDS for which i have been advised to buy a R4 card, although when browsing it has sometimes stated its an R5 or R6. I was just wondering/hoping that wether r5/r6 if it would still be compatible with r4. I'm probably still doing something very simple wrong ,not in only posting on this forum but i may also be upsetting certain people with posting such a straight forward question that its so simple i should already know.
no, they are clones and sometimes damage DS units (the R5 you mentioned is actually N5, and is notorious for causing damage). R4 is no longer a good buy, as it is no longer supported. (That's if you can even find an original one). The best flashcart now is the CycloDS Evolution. Additionally, roms that are smaller than 50MB will not deduct points.
R5 and R6 are fake, it's hard to find original R4's too because they aren't being mass-produced anymore. I advise a CycloDS since R4 isn't being updated anymore anyway...
N5s usually always brick. And don't ask if another flashcart will work with another flashcart of the same Slot. Say will it work with the DS. Since they're fakes.
Off topic post: @Joyful_Jen: Don't feel sorry for yourself if you need to ask for help on anything here on RomUlation because everyone here is very helpful No question is too n00bish, stupid or as lame as you think it might be, unless you're really being a smart ass & just making trouble, there will often be someone who might have the answer/s you seek.
Yeah, he's right Being new doesn't make you any a lesser person than somebody who's been around for a long time...
Thanks to all for your kind words of support and encouragement in continuing using this site, i was beginning to feel abit stupid en inadequate, although i now realise that all you professionals had to start somewhere and like me + everyone else it was at the beginning. That aside continuing with the R4 cards, I know that my best option is to buy CycloDs evolution as i have checked out the Edge and the price isn't really that much different, so i would have to go with the cyclods evo. Also i was wondering with the R4 cards, that there are different versions, on tecknet on-line they have duo pack R4 version 2 pack which includes 2GB micro SD card for £30.05 inc vat, and then duo pack R4 card version 3 also with 2GB micro SD card sdhc. Are they all going to be obsolete in the near future? I don't want to keep buying different ones if they aren't compatible and was just wondering if the versions made a difference. If someone could help explain a little more or even suggest a cheaper site than tecknet i would be grateful. Thanks to all for your support. :-* :-*
there are no 'versions' of the original R4. Anything that says 'upgrade', 'version' or has a number (e.g. R4 III) is a clone. Clones have highly variable compatibility rates and some are known to cause permanent damage to a DS.
I'm waiting for delivery of my CycloDS Evolution card, will i still need to follow the instructions in the R4DS Tutorial for formatting and stuff once I've received my card. I've downloaded all the files that are needed for the cycloDS from the link linfoxdomain.com
No worries i've found the user manual for cyclods, it looks straight forward enough. I'l wait and see.
My CycloDS was very much plug-n-play, once the basic stuff was out of the way such as formatting it was just putting the newest firmware in the root and then the games in a games folder. Never had any problems since.
So your telling me to format, and the at the team cyclops forum they said to just drag n drop without the formatting bit? I did say i was new to all this stuff!
