I don't even use anti-virus on my home laptop and I never get a virus.

Use Firefox and keep it up to date.
Install the NoScript addons for it.

Use a good free Anti-Virus like AVG, Avast, etc. Schedule it to run a scan at least once a week, during some idle time. Let it finish the scan even if it does take a couple hours (large harddrive = more files = longer scan).
Use a good free anti-spy/malware like Spybot Search and Destroy. It's teatimer will monitor processes for any potentially dangerous files. It may use resources, but if you have a powerful enough computer it won't affect much.

I also keep Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and CCleaner for weekly checks and cleanups.
I also run Zone Alarm's free firewall software.

if you're using windows XP 32bit I would recommend sygate firewall over zonealarm (zonealarm is pretty nasty on resources). Sygate may be downloaded here: http://www.oldversion.com/download_Sygate_Personal_Firewall_5.6.2808.html

When you start your computer up it will ask you to register every time, just click 'register later'. The company was bought out and disolved by one of their competitors so it is unfortunately not possible to register.

Mcafee is not a good antivirus.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of that advice, because with adblocker on romulation we get no money to pay for the bills. =/

Well, remember to white list everything on Romulation ;)

Well, use firefox with noscript(if you don't mind upseting seph use adblock plus) and a good anti virus (eg not Norton or McAfee).

Or if you don;t want any virus and don't want to pay disconect from the internet, NEVER use foreign memory stick/cd/ect :D

It be a RAM whore. And some of its processes are completely unnecessary.

Isn't there a little tickbox where you can Disable Popups under Settings?
I unticked it, I figured I'd try help.

That and its detection/disinfection rates are poor, and finds quite a lot of false positives.

Pop ups suck, no doubt about that. I'd never actually force them on users, so yeah, you can disable them.

Ah right... I did have this problem, I had McAfee a while back and it was miserable. Slowed the PC down to a standstill at times.

Alright, does it still contribute to funding for the website being up though? If it does then I'll leave it so pop-ups can come up.

Pop ups are the ads that pay best since they obviously draw attention. Thankfully, not everyone disables them so they do provide about 15-20% of the total income.

Right well taking that into account I'll leave it unticked to contribute, not a lot I know, but every little helps. *Fanfare plays* Ahh Tesco's...
