You will have to mod your PS2 to be able to play burned PSX games on it. Also, don't bother putting it on a DVD, PSX games are small enough to fit on a CD so save some money (I'm not even sure if it would work right on a DVD).

It'll work the same, but put them in CDs, it's less expensive. But as thebass said, you need to either install a mod chip, or use a boot disc mechanism like Swap Magic. I use the second one, and apart from some melted plasticine, anything ever went wrong. :p I use the plasticine because I broke the original pieces when trying to install them without reading the instructions provided, nearly fucked up the machine. Oh, well...

All games work JP, NTSC or PAL. If some games are not from the place where you bought the PS2 (PAL games on a NTSC machine), you'll have to change the video mode to your country's, otherwise the game will be displayed in black, white and grey. Plus, it allows you to play original foreign games, just change the video mode.

I advise getting the boot disc, because I've heard some nasty stories about the mod chips, like overheated machines, or broken lasers. Maybe it's just one among all those chips, but I wouldn't risk my PS2's life. Just me. :)

I personally have a Memor32, but I've never tried playing burnt PSX games with it. I do know that its not compatible with all PS2 games, however the firmware is updatable.

Mod chips work fine, much better than Swap Magic. You have to buy it, but chances are you can find it online somewhere, but since your PS2 isn't modded etc. it probably won't be able to read it.
