I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out. I have an old PSP (Fat) that I haven’t touched in years and I thought I would see if I could get some ROMs working on it. I know you have to download custom firmware for the PSP and do some other stuff but I don’t know what I’m looking for. Could someone please just give me a simple step by step instruction or point me in the right direction?

You need to give us more info like what firmware you're running.

If it hasn't been updated recently, then putting CFW on it will be much easier.

Well first, you should probably know the PSP doesn't have "roms" but ".ISOs". .ISOs are dumps of the UMD discs--simalar to PC .ISOs. Some games are also compressed for smaller memory sticks into .CSO format. The only problem with .CSO format is that it may take long for fast paced games (like racing games) that need to quickly load. .CSO formatting is otherwise fine for RPGs, etc.

So, let's get started with the basics. This blog explains it pretty well despite being a bit outdated:

It's thorough on it's instructions however, like insanecrazy said, you need to specify your firmware as it is very important in determining whether or not it's hackable. If you want to hack your PSP, you can visit this site to learn more about it and tutorials on how to do it:
