I have tried to play the psp ISO "Megaman Maverick Hunter X" on my psp using the program "fastloader v0.7" and when i try to play the game it says that the file is corrupt (and i know the file isnt corrupt because i can open the ISO in my comp and it seems fine)and i cant play it. I followed a tutorial at http://forum.mininova.org/lofiversion/index.php?t7872.html and did everything it told me to except i used a card reader that is inbuilt in my computer and i put my memory stick in there instead of connecting my psp to my computer.
Can someone please tell me if there is a better alternative to this or if i was doing something wrong and what the hell is firmware? i hear it all the time and i have no clue at what it does? :(

dont know much, but the firmware is basically the PSP's operating system.

tell me this, are you running the automatic firmware that sony provides, or are you using one of the hombrew hack firmwares? that will make things alot easier, and what verion of firmware are you runing on your psp

i am running the automatic firmware that sony provides but i dont know how to check what version my psp is running. I've seen all the versions like v1.5 or 2.0 to download off websites but what is the difference. Does it do something extra? Also i could enter the fastloader program on my psp but when it was time to choose my ISO i chose my ISO and it said it was corrupted so maybe it isn't the firmware? well i don't know, i just need help.

You can try to run any program in the world and it still wont run your iso because the sony firmware isnt design to play illegal games or such....ISO, PBP, Bin, CSO, ISO2 etc etc.....as to check your firmware version I suggest you dont update in the future because the more you update your firmware from sony the harder it is for you too play your ripped iso's, so no more updating and let somoene you know thats more experienced and has done firmware upgrading(Hacking) to help you if he has any of the hombrew and only hombrew firmware such as CE-A, B, C, or HM-A, B, C, D etc...it all depends on the version your gonna run, not all the hombrew versions let you play iso or plays snes if your gonna go way back and play classics...(let you install most mods to make your psp into a better performance system)

o.k. to check your version turn on your psp wait till it loads, and go to settings under settings search for system settings. Scroll down until you see system information click on it and that should tell you your Mac Adress, your system software and your nickname for example

    MAC Address 00.00.XX:00:00:XN
    System Software 0.00 XX-X
    Nickname PC-FLD:5463

this is an example so just let me know your version and maybe I can help you out, just give me your system software version and then I might be able to give you instructions on what to do, but I wont tell you how to upgrade to a hombrew version because its a big risk, its upto you, Just to warn you, if you do decide to downgrade and then upgrade to a hombrew version thats which your gonna have to do if you wanna play your ISO games. THE WARNINGS COME FIRST SUCH AS THIS:

1: You must decide to Upgrade to a Hombrew Version or not
2: There is a risk for Downgrading and then upgrading your PSP
3: The Risk is your PSP might Brick or it may not (A chance your gonna have to take (RISK))
4: Brick defines as your PSP will break or your bios will get damage resulting in a blank screen unable to bring it back to life, practically a DEAD PSP
5: Second Before you Even decide to upgrade you must know your PSP hardware versions not all version support the PSP Hombrew Version:
6: Hardware Support Only: TA-079 - TA-086 anything above or below that will be a big risk for bricking
7: Firmware Version also matters, not all TA Hardware version support the software, anything within this range of version any PSP firmware will result.
8: Software Version from Hombrew, there are alot so your gonna have to check em out in their site
9: Let someone experiences that knows about downgrading and upgrading hombrew versions do it
10: Dont ever try this without supervision experienced, unless your a c++, A++, or Engeneer, Technician then go fo it ;D coughtTechnicianMEcought ;D :p :p
11: This information you have recieved is only information if you do decide to do it we are not responsible nor any administrator here in this forum were you got your info is reponsible if for some ever reason your PSP Does Brick, you knew the concequences you read the WARNINGS you took em so we are not responsible not even me.
    12: ******************************************************************
    * WARNING, ANY DOWNGRADER HAS A CHANCE OF BRICKING A PSP. WHEN A *
    * PSP IS BRICKED YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT ANYMORE. WE HAVE *
    * DONE A LOT TO TRY AND MINIMISE THE RISK, BUT THERE IS ALWAYS *
    * SOME LEVEL OF RISK WHICH YOU MUST ACCEPT IF YOU WANT TO *
    * DOWNGRADE *
    ******************************************************************

if you still wanna do it Ill give you the information to were you can get the files you need, the most I can garantee you is for some ever reason you accept this warnings and risk, then the version for you which to my knowledge if all you wanna do is play PSP, PSX DS, Snes, GBA, etc etc.... ISO or what ever format you should go for 3.03 OE-C, thats the version Im runing on my PSP it was a risk but it was worth it, didnt brick on mine so lets hope doesnt on yours.

However lets say youve succeeded in runing hombrews version 3.03OE-C, you can never ever go back to the sony version not all versions give you the same performances as others, for me this is o.k because I can play my games however if for some reason you dont like the version you can always upgrade back to the regular sony firmware but be warn once you do it, you can never ever return back to any older version or back to any hombrew version (downgrade back to any version) if you downgrade too much your PSP will Brick, I can garantee you that.

    Once again

IF YOURE STILL INTERESTED AND WANT THE FILES TO DOWNGRADE AND THEN UPGRADE TO A HOMBREW VERSION ILL GIVE YOU THE SITES FOR WERE YOU CAN GET EM, ALSO ASK THE TECHNICIANS THERE WHO CREATED THEM OR HAVE EXPERIMENTED ON THEM TO HELP YOU EVEN MORE ON HOW TO DO THE PROCESS.

by the way to check if your psp is within range of the (Hardware Support Only: TA-079 - TA-086) check you Manual Book for the model number or to make things easier turn off your PSP take the battery pack and the information for model number and year it was made(not all the PSP's were made in the same year which resulted in diferent hardware versions) The model number should be right next to the SONY Logo, also give me the FCC ID: under the voltage of your psp look for CERTIFICATE and give me the year month and day it was made, that will also make things easier to let you know if your psp is :p worthy of upgrading to a Hombrew Version :p

the easiest way was to give me the hardware model number but that will prob be a little hard because then youd have to take your PSP apart and look for it, before in first PSP's that came out the hardware number was right under the UMD Opener inside, you could practically see it, but now youd prob have to take it apart to let me know if you own one of the newer PSP's, but I suggest you dont do it, just give me the above info and ill let you know if its o.k., safe to work on it until you :p upgrade to a hombrew :p There is no differences in the PSP's they are all the same, same features same information, only different hardware versions, meaning the newer PSP's have a stronger hardware Version so that any hacker or user would outsmart sony and hack it :p 8) , guess we proved them wrong muahahaha, plus the newer hardware also helps because it wont slow down or get as hot as the bigining hardwares would, muahahaha. ;D ;D ;D

Did you read the post carefully( Read Everything from were I started to the end under Reply #4, that will give you an idea of what Im asking and what you have to do), the system software is fine, no need for the mac address, but anyways what I also need is your PSP's hardware number, or the model number which is located under your battery compartment, the date as well of when the PSP was Made

just give me your system software version and then I might be able to give you instructions on what to do, by the way to check if your psp is within range of the (Hardware Support Only: TA-079 - TA-086 Are only supported by hombrew downgrades) check you Manual Book for the model number or to make things easier turn off your PSP take the battery pack and the information for model number and year it was made(not all the PSP's were made in the same year which resulted in diferent hardware versions) The model number should be right next to the SONY Logo, also give me the FCC ID: under the voltage of your psp look for CERTIFICATE and give me the year month and day it was made, that will also make things easier to let you know if your psp is worthy of upgrading to a Hombrew Version

Read the information under Reply #4. First try to understand the rules, well not rules but advices, and then let me know what you understood there so we can be on topic,...........alright

why do you want the FCC ID? It is a code that identifies the manufacturer, so it should be the same on all PSPs

  9. Prototype

    Prototype Well-Known Member

not all the psp's have the same FCC code, some have the 101 B 102A etc etc...with diff AK8, althought its not important, but it would make things alot easier, to see whether it matches some of the psp's, I have to give him the right program so he wont sue us ;D , I just kidding naww but really, (Really Important)Since diff manufactor PSP's came out with diff hardware versions they change the FCC ID as Well.

Ofcourse when your gonna give critical info like this you cant missed one single little detail or other wise your gonna get screwed or screw someone off, even the smallest single most or less important detail that you miss will result in a critical problem., I aint taking does chances 8) :p :p :p

all i could see was the model number which was :

    *model psp-1002
and the date code says 5d (whatever that means)

sorry if its wrong again. im doing the best i can. I'm a real n00b

    Prototype Well-Known Member

alright thats good your doing fine now look in your battery compartment again and tell me the date that it was manufactored, look under certificate it should say something like this

    CERTIFICATE
COMPLIES WITH 21 CFR 1040. 10 AND 1040 11 EXCEPT FOR DEVIATIONS PERSUANT TO LASER NOTICE NO.50. DATE JULY 26, 2001. SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENTInc. etc etc.................

give me the manufactures date, dont worry about the FCC ID, if you dont feel like giving it to me, althought it would help.........

if your not sure were the FCC ID is at it should be somewere around this:

    PSPTM(PLAYSTATION R PORTABLE)
    DC 5V==1.2A
    FCC ID: AK8PSP1001B

It should say something like that.

althought Im wondering if hes psp will support upgrading and downgrading because hes TA hardware might be higher then the other PSP's...hummmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... :-\

alright well then atleast give me the manufacturers date, I already showed you were it is. well told you. Or other wise Im not gonna be able to help you much

  15. cjfc.vp

    cjfc.vp Well-Known Member

i couldnt see that either! :( im really sorry but i checked all (for the date) over the battery compartment and in it and still i cant see it.

If you dont have these pieces of info, would it be hard to tell me whether or not i should downgrade?

  16. Prototype

    Prototype Well-Known Member

see if you can send me a picture of your PSP's battery compartment, if you can do that I might be able to search for it, find a way because without the manufacturers date I wont be able to help you atleast, I dont have any PSP that has a model 1002 so its gonna be hard......unless any of you peeps do have a psp with the model number PSP-1002 then help us out here and gives us the date. the date on all the model numbers 1002 for models 1002 are the same date. :p

In the mean time Ill search online for your model number see if I can atleast find a date for it.........after 20 hours of searching :p

alright, alright, finally, I was able to find that models 1002 is upgradable to any firmware version even thought I wasnt able to find the date but it is downgradable.......so............the next thing to do is if your willing to take that risk Ill provide you with the website to the files......aperently the psp is whitin the range of models TA 082 to 086 Hardware,...........so your safe, the only other things is are you willing to take that risk?...........
