So I've been wanting to get a new laptop for awhile now, but due to my very limited budget, I don't think I can go above 1000$. I'm looking for a laptop just for casual web browsing, emails and school work and porn and probably a few casual games (Bejeweled, Peggle etc). I've heard that I should stay away from anything above i3 processors since it takes quite an awful lot of juice. Are there any specs I should look out for to get the cheapest possible price, any particular brands I should look out for/stay away from and anything else worth mentioning would be nice.

I think you should get a net book if you just want simple games and browsing/word processing

I have a netbook from this line I have, and its nice:
    eePC

Yeah, and an ASUS eePC is what to look out for, and I gave you a link that shows what I think you should look for, which also has the prices, something you were also looking for.

I'll but what is available in Singapore, hopefully matching up to specs that someone could give me.

    Can't get eePC in Singapore.

Lappy Classification (in general trends of models and design)

    Dell - WEAK business
    Toshiba - Business
    HP - Media-Centered/Medium Gaming
    Alienware - Con
    Intel Graphics - Dog defecation.

I have a strong HP lappy w/ 4 gbs of ram and 500gb HD that I got for $600 and, besides the awful new HP mousepads (I don't really care, jus plug in a wireless lappy mouse anyway) I love it.

I'd say to either go for a medium-strength toshiba or a medium strength HP (but DON'T buy a modern HP unless you get something to replace the mousepad) maybe 2-3 gb of ram and a decent hard drive of 250-320 gigs. This way, you CAN use it for the little things but also for better things in the future. You'll probly spend around $400-$500, well under your limit.

Also, since price is a matter, avoid apple like the plague.

alienware aren't strong gaming, they overheat at the sight of the CD case.

they're marketed as gaming, yes, but they're badly designed and far too powerful hardware in an inadequately ventilated case so they overheat without any provocation at all. Plus they're made by dell so the usual dell rules apply, except alienwares are even more overpriced than normal dells.

Is this true since all my friends go on in my course. Say that its the best and how it has water cooling and this and that so it couldn't over heat and I have nothing to back up my claims.

A HP Compaq 6910p is a pretty good system. Just tell it to do something and it performs it immediately.
Bejeweled 3 = OK (at the best setting possible)
Bejeweled Twist = OK (also at the best settings possible)
    Bejeweled 2 = OK
    Bejeweled = OK
Peggle should run fine too, even at the highest settings possible.
    Windows Aero = OK

    CD games:
Sims 2 (all expansions & stuff packs) = OK, may lag a bit
Sims 3 (with Late Night expansion) = OK

    Comes with:
Processor: Intel Centrino vPro - 2.10 GHz
    HDD: 111 GB
OS: Windows Vista Business (runs well though, not looking at the downsides of Vista, and can easily be upgraded)
    RAM: 2 GB
Graphics (NOT SURE): Intel (not that bad though)
Extra: Lightsensor, Quick Launch Buttons, Fingerprint sensor, build-in microphone, touchpad

I can recommend this system to anyone.

    Price: +/- 450 euro's == +/- 597.87 U.S. dollars

I highly doubt laptops are water cooled. In the case of desktops, watercooling does not guarantee to prevent overheating, if its not installed properly, not maintained properly, not operated properly or even is just a crap system then its worse than air cooling.

Don't worry, I know to stay away from Dell and Alienware. I guess I'll go for HP.

You could go on eBay or somewhere and find an international seller. Also, If they have HP and astuff, why would the not have ASUS?

    oh also, from personal experience.

    NEVER GET ACER.

I bought a $700 acer lappy one time and it died (phsically, parts of it blew) within TWO WEEKS.

Acer tech support is nonexistent too. Thank god we could still return it.

so ya, jus to let ya know.
