So yea after an unbearable wait for some cash flow I am going to treat myself to a PS3. Most likely just a 160Gig PS3 Slim.
Now I'm not a total newb when it comes to the PS3 market, but since I havn't ever actually OWNED one I have not been keeping up with it too much. So here is a list of the games I plan to get so far.

Demon's Souls: I have played and beaten it, but It's a must have for me.

Dark Souls: As a spiritual Sequal to Demon's Souls, its another must have. Also it is the primary reason for my buying a PS3.

White Knight Chronicles II: I beat the first one, this second one also comes with the entire first game, redone with the new features of the second. So double bonus.

MGS4: Played and beaten it, but never gotten the chance to really explore, as I was under a time constraint.

As for this I have played a handful of other games, but I don't think I have any of them on my must get list. I am primarily an RPG gamer, and I am not that into "casual" games. I like things with deep immersion or story.

I don't plan to get TES: Skyrim for a console, fyi. I'll wait till I have a better computer to do so.

Just by the mention of certain games, it seems that you are going completely legit. Also, I think 160 GB will do for what you need to do. If you ever plan on going bigger, then don't concern yourself with the HDD size because you will be upgrading it. Just something to think about. No need to get a big HDD if you're going to put an even bigger one in there.

Not many good RPGs out there for the PS3...at least JRPGs...
There's Dragon Age I & II, Mass Effect 2, and Fallout 3 for WRPGs.

As much as I dislike Final Fantasy XIII, it is by far the highest quality JRPG we have on the console, unless you actually enjoy NIS-developed crap. Nippon Ichi Software is the sole reason I give FFXIII such high praise. I didn't like the battle system until I played anything published by NIS. Auto-battle is great, as long as I don't have to manually move my characters around, or have to analyze really over-complicated battle mechanics. I'll take Auto-Battle any day. Linearity was kinda boring, but it's better than not knowing where the hell to go. Voice-acting is Emmy Award winning compared to the corny ass dialogue that NIS presents.

There's also Resonance of Fate, but even now I still don't get the battle mechanics...
Folklore is more action-RPG, and Eternal Sonata I haven't played.
Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy-RPG, and is really good.

Ar Tonelico Qoga, Atelier Rorona or Totori, Cross Edge, and Trinity Universe (even Disgaea 3 & 4) are all published by NIS, and going from FFXIII to any of these titles just shows a lack of effort on their part.

There's also Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny, but I haven't played it on the PS3 yet.

Also, there's Borderlands but that's an FPS game heavily based on MMORPG concepts. Get the GOTY edition or don't bother playing. It needs the DLC packages to be enjoyable.

And obviously, you're going to have to at least rent the PS3 exclusives like the Uncharted series, God of War series, Infamous 1 & 2, and Tomb Raider series.

You'll also need A racing game, so GT5 will do. I didn't really like the arcade-ish racers like NFS Hot Pursuit or Test Drive Unlimited 2.

    Sandbox games:
GTA IV, The Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony
Red Dead Redemption & Undead Nightmare
    Saints Row 2 (haven't played 3)
    L.A. Noire

I think I covered most of what the PS3 has to offer, as far as legit means.

Lol... You take a lot for granted. No offense though.
I've owned a XBOX360 already so a lot of cross platform games I have already played.
Dragon Age 1 & 2 played and beaten, I've played Mass Effect, and didn't much care for it honestly.
As far as FFXIII goes, thats a deal breaker, I've given up on Final Fantasy they are releasing it in 3 parts, and I have no desire to play it.

Resonance of Fate My friend has for his xbox360, I have only played a little of it. But it feels kinda corny. The main character is... well... lame. Borderlands was fantastic on the XBOX360, I might pick up the sequel when it comes out.

Your obviously's are kinda my obviously not going to bother withs... Uncharted... didn't pique my interest, I've never liked god of war. Infamouse I might try... and I've played a LOT of Tomb Raider games already... I can't think of anything new they can really bring to the table with Ms. Croft...

GT5 is out... Growing up with the playstation one and two, I've at least tried each GT game and I just never enjoy myself. I am not a racing fan. If I get a racing game it will most likely be Wipout HD Fury...

Already Beat GTA4, Already beat RDR, Saint's row is a GTA clone so no thanks. L.A. Noire... I honestly don't know anything about.

Rune Factory... I forgot it had a PS3 release... I'll add that to my list of must grabs. [I have 1 2 and 3 for DS]

I also am I big ace combat fan so I might pick that up, as well as Armored Core...

Resonance of Fate doesn't really take itself all that serious until later on in the game. I do agree that the battle system can be pretty confusing though.

I did like Final Fantasy XIII but that was after I pretty much ignored everything outside of the battle system. Only good thing about the game as far as I was concerned.

I don't really get the NIS hate myself. I haven't really had much time to sit down with most of the games mentioned but I can at least say that Disgaea 3 is enjoyable if you like Strategy RPG grindfests.

Trinity Universe,Disgaea 3 & 4 are Nis's only decent games the rest are garbage.

So grab those along with Ninja Gaiden,Sonic Generations,Tekken 6,Mortal Kombat,Streetfighter 4 and that new King of Fighters coming out.

As well as the already mentioned Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 and 4. I'll add the following:

Katamari Forever: People will see you rolling and they be hating. It's a fairly amusing game once you invest some time into it. Forever contains stages from previous Katamari games and a few new ones of its own.

Yakuza 3 and 4: I thoroughly enjoyed the first two games on the PS2, 3 and 4 are no exception. The Yakuza series has been considered a spiritual sequel to Shenmue.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International: Much like the 360 version but on a single Blu-Ray as well as Eng/JP voicing.

Heavy Rain: I remember when this game first came out and it was amazing. Hell, it still is now.

3D Dot Game Heroes: For the 8-bit RPG gamer inside you.

I've also given Eternal Sonata on the PS3 a go, much like the 360 version but with additional playable characters. Personally found it a little slow to start off but gradually gets better as you progress.

Saint's Row maybe similar to GTA, it's vastly different. I'm not even a fan of Saints Row either. If you compared Burnout with GT5/Forza, then it's like comparing Saints Row and GTA.

LA Noire is a heavily story based game where you play as a detective, searching for clues and interrogating suspects/witnesses. It's like a more realistic Pheonix Wright without the court sections. It's okay, some of the mechanics are strange and don't fit, but I enjoyed it.

No love for Rachet And Clank or LBP?

Flower, and the MGS Collection that just came out.

    Fuck Flower is good.

    I didn't care much for Rachet and clank... I dunno I hear it get compared with crash bandicoot. [loved crash bandicoot] but I dunno my game preferences have become strange. Eternal sonata I'd like to check out. Right now I am updating my PS3 and transfering my PSN account over.... anyone know if the free games thing is still viable? I never downloaded mine. >.>;

You have to try the Uncharted series, if you're having second thoughts on trying it. It's one of the must-haves on PS3, IMO. Mix Assassin's Creed, minus the freedom, then add cinematics, plus acrobatics, some interesting historical twists and finally, some treasure hunting found on random yet well-hidden places. So yeah, it has a deep story, and realistic acting with a bit of comedy within the dialogue. If you didn't like the story, try the multiplayer then.

I heard Flower was good. It's more of a psychological game...I think.

And try Red Dead, if you haven't bought it on your XBox. The ending is just shattering.

Read Dead Redemption I beat on a friends PS3 a few years ago... I loved the old west style it had. [considering I am not much of a fan of the GTA series, they did good with IV and RDR]

But thanks everyone, I now have a little beefy list of games to slowly get my paws on... I have the first one on my personal list of must haves, and am trying to get Dark Souls...

Nope, it's an artsy game. It's very calming and relaxing, beautiful and actually fun.

Yea flower is an art style game. lot of those coming out lately, I was gunna get it but my debit card doesn't work on PSN for some reason. ._.

Anywho, seems Demon's Souls is actually rather lively lately... I normally never get summoned in tower of latria, but today I got to be summoned as the final boss like 4 times. :D I now have 2 Old Monk Headwrapping thingies. [It's funny watching people react to the Large Sword of Moonlight]

I'm not overly familiar with Demon's Souls myself(360 owner that still hasn't gotten around to buying a PS3) but does the Moonlight Sword fire off those energy waves in that too?

I was just wondering since I tend to keep that sword for my long range as opposed to a bow right now.

Moonlight Sword does not in Demon's Souls. the Moonlight effect just adds high base magic damage to the weapon. Also I dont have Dark Souls yet ;=; And all I know so far is about some of the undead burg. :3
