Publisher: Eidos Interactive Developer: Looking Glass Studio Rating: M for Mature Release Date: March 21 2000 Series: Thief Genre: Action/ Stealth Players: 1 Thief 2 is an older game, but still fun to play. I just got this game recently and I haven't completed it yet but I've played alot, so here we go. In Thief 2: The Metal Ages you play as the characters Garret, a hardened thief of the highest ranking. Shadows and silence are your allies. Light is your enemy. Stealth and cunning are your tools. And the Riches of others are for your taking. You make your way in the City, preying on the rich and corrupted, who are no more deserving of their worldly goods than a hardworking thief. Every job comes with some danger. Being a thief means always being one misstep away from finding an angry guard bearing down you with a drawn blade. For these unfortunate moments, you carry a sword yourself. You also have a blackjack (a type of blunt weapon, a club) and a short-bow are also part of your arsenal. Fighting is almost always your last choice, but sometimes it's the only one. More often, however, the road to riches is dark and silent. You have a diffrent range of tools which help you get out, help you get in or help you get around an obstacle. You have to remember you a Thief NOT a Warrior. So keep your head and you won't have to endure loading again! He has no Idea whats going on As I said before you are NOT a warrior. You're a thief. You take out torches before you go into rooms. You find keys to get through locked doors. You'd rather knock a guard out instead of killing them. You might call this a First-Person-Shooter but it more like a First-Person-Stealth. This is a hard game to play. You can save your game in the level but it's still hard to survive. It's like a midevil Splinter Cell (Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell to be exact), with Quake/Doomish kind of graphics. Most of the mission areas are huge which reflect on the loading time (meh a minute and a half doesn't matter much). In each level there are guard and loot for you to steal. From candles to alcohol and your regular gold to the ever so awesome sacks of it, it is fun. The best mission in the game is Life of a Party. You have to sneak across the tops of some buildings break into a security's tight building, get some information and loot then sneak out again. This level is the best because of the good moments. You're able to hear conversations, such as one where two guards are arguing across the rooftops insulting eachother employers. The sound for this game is really well done especially for the voice acting, which for games around then was rare. The graphics for this game are outdated. With old school, graphics the next-gen gamers with frown on this but it still is very good, it even has shadows that help a little. The first level map The maps are well laid out with each room described. Notes are sometimes left on it, with the trail your supposed to follow sometimes accompanying it. The levels can be like riddles like with the first one it took me about two hours to complete, I had to *SPOILER*.................... Go all the way through which took like bloody an hour and a half (I had to restart lots) then once you get to where the arrow and star-like this is ( the *) you have to trek all the way back through the house, get a accomplice to rescue a girl then you have to travel all the way out again and then your done. This is like a training level for first-timers. It shows you how to use your weapons like the water arrow which lets you put out torches and the blackjack to knock people out. Damn the rules in this level. If you kill anyone you fail. There are three difficulties on each level: Normal, Hard and Expert. The only difference is more this to complete, for the first level they where. Normal:Give Basso the signal Get Basso and Jennivere out of the mansion together Do not kill anyone Hard:Give Basso the signal Get Basso and Jenevere out of the mansion together Do not kill anyone Get at least 300 gold in loot Expert:Give Basso the signal Get Basso and Jenevere out of the mansion together Don't kill anyone Get at least 600 in loot, including 200 in gems Knock out at least 8 guards Presentation- 8- Everything is explained well with the maps and everything else clear. The loading time really take away from it though. Graphics- 8.5- Getting old, but with nice oldies graphics it still gets the job done well. Sound- 9- The voice acting is amazing and with good effects it's really done great. Gameplay- 8.5- Slow gameplay often making you think before you do, go though none the less. I wanted to quote this from a diffrent review: The game is a slow, thinking man's game of chess - but with billy clubs. It's Quake for readers of The New York Times. Lasting Appeal- 9- This is a good game for those looking for a challenge. You could always play the levels again to try diffrent scenarios or to get all the treasures. You can also try diffrent difficulties. Regardless, the levels do take really long. Overall- 43/50- A good old thief game.
Its a bit short content-wise 'cj6' (your new nickname haha) Its still a good, solid review. Bring on the reviews for August! sorry Winterr
Decent review. I personally haven't played this but I have played the first one. It was okay. The game was a bit easy even on expert. It kinda felt like Metal Gear with the stealth gameplay and whatnot.
thanks, everyone, I still want to find a game that will make me write a long review, I checked and nothing paricularly intresting coming out yes, i like, i like
