The Last Remnant Platforms : PC( Mar 24, 2009 ), Xbox 360( Nov 20, 2008 ), PS3 ( TBA 2009 ) Genre : Role Playing - Console-Style RPG GameSpot Score : 8.0 The Good * A long, epic tale in a fascinating new fantasy world * Fun, uniquely strategic battle system * Gorgeous musical score * Beautiful art design. The Bad * Some texture pop-in and screen tearing * Battle system can be obtuse. Rush Sykes is the prototypical fantasy hero, innocently sulky but totally devoted to his sweet sister Irina. When Irina is kidnapped, Rush hurries to liberate her, but unsurprisingly, it's not the most straightforward of rescues. Rather, Rush finds himself caught in a political struggle centered around powerful magical artifacts called remnants. These objects are both the center of society as well as a great curiosity, heavily researched at the Academy by hosts of scientists, including Rush's own parents. What starts as an upheaval between the pro- and anti-remnant factions explodes into an all-out war when a formidable hulk of a man calling himself the Conqueror appears, apparently able to control any remnant, no matter how large or potent. Political forces clash and hidden powers are unleashed, and though a tenuous peace is eventually achieved, it isn't long before conflict reawakens. The story is epic, though Rush himself isn't the most interesting leading man he Last Remnant is set in a fictional world featuring a number of distinct humanoid races; the Mitras, most human in appearance, the Yamas, strong fish-like people, the Qsitis, small reptilians, and the Sovanis, feline people with four arms. The story of the game revolves around "remnants", mysterious and coveted ancient artifacts of varying shapes and sizes which possess magic powers and which have been the cause of several wars throughout the game's history. As Remnants come in varying forms, all cities throughout the world have one that their ruler is bound to that assist to govern and bring peace to their assigned realm. For example, Athlum has the Valeria Heart; a gigantic sword set in the middle of the Town Square. It governs courage and gives all those it surrounds the strength to stand up for their rights. David, the ruler of Athlum also is bound to the Gae Bolg; a weapon Remnant that is shaped like a cannon and can deliver devastating effects on the battlefield. I liked this game, but I didn't beat it. I kept getting side tracked by trying to learn new abilities and level up. I have it for the Xbox 360. The frame rate issues with it are almost nothing if you install the game to your HDD. Square Enix took a leap with this title, and I think it was in the right direction. There are plenty of things that could be improved, and I hope they do make a couple more games with this style and improve upon it. I believe that the use of the Unreal Engine set them back with the graphics. I'd like to see them release a similar styled game but use the Crystal Tools they developed for their games, which is more suited for consoles than the Unreal engine was. The only thing I disliked about the gameplay was how random the battle options appeared to be at times. Hopefully they make a similar game with a little more control over your battle options, then it would be nearly perfect.
I don't think so. I believe the PC version is just a port of the 360 version. I'm sure the PC version is better because the PC hardware is more suited to using the unreal engine and would be less likely to have framerate issues like the 360 did. (But like I said, with the game installed to the HDD of the 360, not having to load data off the Disc made the game run much smoother).
I play it with keyboard, however it defaults to showing controls for an xbox controller and you have to hunt in the options screen to get it to display keyboard controls.
hmm its just too bad that I couldn't get it working, my PC can't handle those kinds of games just because of the PC specs. but it looks like a really good game overall.
Oh..found it. Maybe you need a AMD althon? I'm using X4 now... by the way.. Can I equip my other party members? Looks like there's no option for it...
No, you can't equip the party members but you can iimprove their weapon. By the way there's something I want to ask, sometimes on the map the party members will ask Rush to help them find some item, I say yes but nothing happened, what am I supposed to do after this? ???
No, it's not a real "quest". They will just take the item from you once you have it, and they use it to upgrade their weapons. It's very similar to when they ask you if they can have an item that is dropped after battle. But it just lets you know what they are after.
That depends on what types of abilities they use and learn. If you want one to learn magic, put him in a union that focuses on magic and he/she will eventually learn more magic. Same with physical. I love the AoE magic spells. My main character and David were both setup to start spamming AoE magic
Should I use both hand or one hand for the weapon? It seems you get different abilities from it... ???
Ya, you get different skill sets depending on if you are using One weapon, two weapons, or (in some races) four weapons. It all depends on what you want to do. I think Torgal(?) is a better physical character than magical.
