I know Carnival Games won't work for a lot of people, if you've tried several flash carts then it's odd though, does this thread help any? https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,1462.0.html

Thanks for the links, I read through them and am still none the wise.

My firmwares are up to date, I am a stickler for the latest software and I have just reformated the Micro SD because of fragmentation and nothing would load on the TTDS.

The only thing I can think of is that its the cheap SD card from ebay.....

But then again these are the only two games I have encountered with this type of problem.

Cooking game freezes at startup with a white screen.
Carnival games gives me a couldn't load the save file error.

I heard of a patch for carnival games, I was thinking that if anyone has a savefile for carnival games then they could post it for everyone, that way I can test a theory.

    Thanks all

Carnival Games just doesn't work on TTDS then, nothing to do about it, the freeze is most likely a slow SD card but can also be that the TTDS simply doesn't work with it.

Both the R4 and TTDS freeze at startup (white screen) with the cooking guide.

Both the R4 and TTDS give me a save file error on carnival games.

I can't imagine that I would have to pay 15 (plus) euros on a 2gb microSD to get one rom to work that's ridiculous.
I got mine from ebay at 1€ (2gb).

I find it all a bit silly.

Well, that you find it silly just means that you don't understand what's going on. SD Memory has a read and a write speed, just like a harddisk has a RPM (rotations per minute) speed which dictates the read and write speed.

When you buy the cheap SD memory you get a bad read/write speed, some games need to read/write a lot of data and if the SD memory can't keep up then the game freezes. You might find it silly but none-the-less that's how it works.

Basicly then, the advice to all is, pay loads of money for an official microSD with a high read/write speed.

I thought as much, but it is still annoying as even the expensive 1g mSD that I bought doesn't work...

Oh well. thanks for the discusion.

So yeah, you'd better spend those 15€ for a good card, otherwise, this might be the first of many problems to come.

Make sure to get either Kingston or Sandisk branded MicroSDs.

    I think I will test it out, I have a 1gb Sandisk.

    I'll let you know..

    OK, update time,

I learned a valid leson today..

"my old mac cube mucks something up with the file transfer"

I put everything on my PC, formated, recopied and hey presto. the cooking guide works.

maybe the formating that a mac does is not the same as a PC.

Anyway, it works (on a micro SD that cost 1€)

So the moral of the story is:

    * For rom transfers and formatting, use a PC.
    * Don't buy expensive SD cards, they are a ripoff.

I doubt carnival games will be the same happy ending though. :)

Again, don't buy cheap ones, certain games don't like them. Stick to Kingston or Sandisk for best compatibility.
