ok, i have this old windows 98 and 1 it freezes if you don't do any thing on after a few minuets(ex move the mouse) and now it doesn't boot can i do any thing to fix it? and 3 could i put a new OS on it?(the tower says built for win98 and NT)
try reinstalling windows 98. if it's not second edition, upgrade to second edition because its a lot more stable. Otherwise, a windows 98 machine should probably be able to run windows 2000 professional
thanks but now it wont boot do you thank it needs a new hard drive? and is there any free way to get the data off of it free
nothing comes up i plug every thing in and the nothing, usually you hear the hard drive working and a beep when the gateway symbol is done loading but the i doesn't do any thing now, the even the hard drive light thing that flashes when you computer is doing something only lights up for a few seconds and then nothing, and i also have to hold the power buttun to make it go off, and the second the plug gos in it powers up.(sorry so long)
The power on on plug plug happened to my old computer too. I don't know why, though. So the POST doesn't complete (or start). Does your computer make any beeping noises when turned on?
not now, but it used to after the coputer loaded the gatway thang and the os was about to load but now theres no acticaty on the hard drive
