    Howdy :D

Been a lurker much much longer than a member, joined so I could comment on a few threads that interested me. These forums are a little more mature than the usual gamers forums which is great.

I live in the north of Ireland and I am a family man, wife + 1 kid, we enjoy gaming together and, as we have 1 PC each, we can have our own little LAN parties and play some MMO's together, which is great fun.

My interest in gaming began in the arcades in the early 80's then got myself a ZX spectum, learned ZX basic, poked and peeked the ZX to death and also found some great games. Then got an Atari ST and I wish I still had one as it had built in midi ports. Now i mostly play on PC and NDS. We have a Wii, PS1 and PS2 but I don't make much use of them.

I was educated in programing to degree level. Learned various forms of basic, fortran, pascal, forth, unix(on a sexy VAX 720) but decided to stuff all that and get a job. Then I went back to education did another degree in humanities, then ran away to L.A. to become a porn star and drug dealer :p the porn did not work out so apart from the drugs I made some of those 3D posters that were all the rage a while back.

Since giving up programing, adult movies and selling drugs I have worked as a civil servant, food critic, brake specialist(quick fit :D ), archeologist, leather restorer and teacher of the occult arts. Currently i'm a house husband and I still teach the occult.

To keep fit I do martial arts, mostly traditional kung fu, though currently working on a new drunken style nine section whip form(that's even more dangerious than it sounds, i have a deep scar on my head to prove it :p ). Other hobbies include making my own music, fishing for pike, and cooking.

I have too many favourite games to mention but I do love a good turn based strategy game, rpg's, dungeon crawlers and a very few fps's.

I think Romulation is a great site not just because of its great forum community but because I think it is wrong for any industry to expect people to pay money for something they do not know they will like(film and music companies also guilty), I think that many developers would thrive with a more open industry as there are lots of small companies making some great games, but i think many of the big boys in the gaming industry would suffer as they turn out so much shovelware. So Romulation gives me a way to try out some games I would never have thought of having a go at, or(more importantly) would never have seen advertised because they don't have a big label backer. I cannot afford to buy very many games, but I do buy those games I think are great.

    Love 1prinny ;)

Welcome :) those family LANs sound like a good laugh, I wish my parents had been into gaming but having grown up on a farm most of our time was spent outside (which isnt a bad thing of course!). And yes we try to be a little mature, im 21 so im no youngin either.

we have a PC each in our house (in fact I have several of my own PCs) but my parents arent interested in games and my sister probably wouldn't know a computer game if it smacked her on the head, let alone how to play one.

Thank you all for your lovely comments, you are all too kind :)

I guess I am blessed with having a wife who is into gaming, I think she got fed up watching me having fun on GuildWars a few years ago and decided she may as well have ago, now she plays GuildWars more than I do!

Playing together is definatly very good for our family relations, we get on very well anyway but facing some challenges and having a laugh is a great and inexpensive way for us to share some time together away from the stresses and strains of modern life.
