I am always excited when I get some sort of new equipment for myself. Be it a new TV, computer component, any electronics, I am just happy that it will give me something new to do. It is funny how simple our world would be without any such devices. Can you imagine there being no device to play your music? That would effectively mean that music would not exist (or rarely be heard as it would be limited to acoustic instruments). No gaming, no movies, no nicely warmed bread in the morning with hot grounded coffee bean liquid to start your day off. Technology is really important...really...really...REALLY important. But, and even though the title of this topic is very serious, there is a hint of sarcasm in it. How many times has it happened to you that you purchase a new electronics device/equipment, and it does not work like it is supposed to? It is damaged and appears to not be working correctly, now you are stuck with having to go back to the store and demand them to replace it, or wait for weeks for them to attempt to repair it. Eventually when you get it back, it works ok, but you always fear for its survival and treat it like a new born baby. This happens to me all the time. Maybe I am unlucky, or it really is the manufacturers or retailers not producing/handling the goods like they should, causing them to damage. One example I can think of is when I got a new DVD Writer for the first time. I had a CD writer for a long time and was about time I upgraded. I get my product, and to my surprise, it does not want to burn DVD's like it should. I had to worry now about going to the store, taking it back in, waiting four weeks for them to repair it, upon which they decided to just give me a new one instead. It's problems like this that really bug me. There are defects in these products so often and you just really need them, yet have to deal with constant issues. I have returned graphic cards, mobile phones, dvd players, you name it. The first product you buy has a 50% chance of working like it should. Has anyone else had problems every time they get a new electronics product? I am sick of it. End of rant.
Yeah. It happens. They make them break easier so you have to keep replacing them. Although this is usually after a few months or so.
sometimes it isn't really broken but rather poor choice of materials from the manufacturer and company. ps1 for instance used plastic materials for the laser lens unit. after several uses, the plastic softens and gets weak due to the heat from the laser unit. overtime it breaks or goes down, which causes the constant disc problems during the ps1 days. sometimes it's also bad firmware and drivers. look at ati, when i played kotor 1 for pc, the game barely functions. while using geforce 6200, it works. i tried other games, old games and it barely works. ati have great cards at great prices but boy they are awful at drivers. sometimes it's poor design and engineering. look at amd's phenom quad processors [a bug on one core] and seagates 1.5tb drives [a problem]. sometimes people do return an open product and the retailers simply relabel it. i remember that electronic store the wiz and everytime i bought something there, the box looks like it was once used and they simply resealed it. this also happens to best buy. electronics do make our lives more complex.
Well to be quite honest we only WANT them, a DVD burner is not necessary for wellbeing of life, plenty of people survive just fine without them.
@ grimsim Yup, the same happens to me, every time. I went to buy a USB wi-fi antenna, it was broken. Bought a PSU for my computer, broken... Even when i bought my first PS21 it was also broken. It's what i call "Technical bad luck".
yup, here if you buy a cheap piece of electronic device, then you should expect it to be broken or not to work as it should do. if you buy an expensive item, it works very well, until the warranty expires then you have to pay for it to be fixed. thats the way it works nowadays
OMFG!!! You have a PS21? WTF????? Are you from the future? What's it like? Has humanity finally succeeded in destroying itself yet? I'm just kidding. I really do love electronics though. I just hate it when they don't work correctly. I just recently purchased a 42" LCD HD TV, and when I got it home there was a dead pixel in the middle of the screen and the upper left corner was really bright and caused the picture to fade in that area. So I returned it to the store and they replaced it with a new one.
They don't just do the whole re-wrap thing to electronics...my car seats were second hand That said, if I do buy electronics, it's gotta be nintendo (never had any troubles with them, so I never have to dish out on that extanded warrenty XD) ipod (I broke mine before it broke itself-still works but not the way it's intended) and sony (stero still strong, and cd player survived agaist my brother, AND HE DESTROYS GAMECUBE CONTROLLERS!) If it looks re-packed I'd tell them straight up "wtf do you think i am?" But I have returned a few faulty products, including a cd whihc I won't mention the artist aince I didn't like it, my cd got...eaten by my outdated, dodgy installed car cd player (changed to newer model since-sticky tape holding it together wtf) and after they whinged...they took it back despite the fact the thing looked like it had being eaten! I wonder if they sold that one... Nothing last long in my house between me and my brother, so I look for devices with "shock proof" on it just in case XD
