My 11yr old was hunting for his gameboy today and come to find out he left it in one of his pant pockets and it got washed in laundry we finally found it, but looking at it there is a nice puddle of water over the screen and my damn tri-wing screwdriver and apparently decided to leave me without prior notice so I can not open the GBA up to see if I can drain the water. I took the battery out and laid it up to see if it will maybe dry out over time, and I think its been well over 12 hours since it got washed. So, How long do you guys figure would be a good waiting frame to test and see if its shot? or would it be too late already? My flash cart was also in the unit, but I have seen other similar incidents of people leaving games in their pockets and they came out fine so I am not too worried about that not so much about the unit itself.
you wont get electrocuted. Turning it on is what kills it, so leave it in a warm place (NOT direct sunlight) for a few days at least, maybe a week or two and it should be OK.
same thing happend to my gameboy SP (only mine went in the wash then frank we had to baby sit i was looking at it and he through it in the pool) i left it on (hanging on the clothesline) till the batteries ran dry and it worked but then again hammer (they fix everything)
It may be ok. I had a DS game and 3 flashdrives go through the laundry and they're fine. In fact, I sold the DS game.
If you have a low powered heat gun or a hair dryer you may try to use it to gently blow warm dry air into the game slot and around the device's cracks to try and help get the water out. We use hot air to dry out electronics all the time at work (We have electronics that are pretty much swimming in water-based coolants non-stop.)
I've laid it up in "warm" room and I guess I will leave it for a week and see what happens. Hopefully it will work again, if not oh well as I am not going on a hunt for a replacement until I see some better responsibility out of my son as this is the 3rd console that's had something happen to it due to neglect. (Nds phat and a pokemon game was chewed up by the dog, PS2 Phat he stepped on because it was buried under junk after he "forgot" to clean up his room and now the GBASp) I hate to come off as harsh, but it gets tiring spending money for replacements or repairs that could have been avoided by simply taking care of it. Then again I am in a bitter mood today over other BS, so I may ease up later on about it. Anyway thanks for the advice.
Actually we got rid of him shortly after that as other things got destroyed, but that's dogs for you. Mainly he was starting to get aggressive to kids and my youngest son wasn't born yet so we found him a new home were he wouldn't have to deal with kids or other dogs and cats.
take out the battery and put it in the oven at proof (around 100 FARENHEIT. NOT CELCIUS. CELCIUS WILL KILL IT.) for about 20 minutes. it should dry out. i've fixed 2 ipods that way xD;
Isn't there a risk of the battery exploding? I know 100 degrees isn't that hot, but could it still happen?
Well its finally dried, but it wouldn't come on at first. so I popped the charger in and now I have a new problem the charge light comes on then goes off, turning the gameboy on it almost shows the logo then shuts off. by manipulating the cord I can get the light to come on for half a second but it will not stay on if I move it around it blinks from the movement. Kept on messing with it and its not doing anything now, I am guessing the battery is shot.
