hello ;D im trying to get FF:CC echoes of time but im 187 points short how long does it take to make 200pts?
This point thing is retarded, I made a new account, im trying to downloading a wii game, but its over 6 GB and i only have enough points to download 2.5 gbs, So i have to either pay them for the privilege of downloading a game they dont even own or wait a couple week. Oh wait i can upload screenshots!! except for the fact i don't have anything to take a screenshot of.
if we didn't have it the site wouldn't exist because it would cost too much to run. Still think it's retarded? We pay over a thousand dollars a month so that you can download games for free. Without the point system it would be several times that. Try being grateful we even run this site considering we're paying out of pocket at present.
Emulators? Usually Lonny or Seph accept pics as long as a) They are of the size of the original game screen (well sans Psone games iirc) b) they are clear and c) They have no logos in them.
if you dont like the point system, go somewhere else. that is always an option, but ill let you know a secret, not many rom sites has wii games like this one. you do know thats mpaa and them other acronyms master plan is right. restrict money flow so goes out of pocket, till money dries up. EVIL and LEGAL huh who would of thought.....
I largely agree. The point system as it is now made more sense 5 years ago, which was pretty much the last time the site concept was really updated. It's definitely something we have to rethink and that is in progress. We're in a tough spot, though, without the ability to charge for premium membership and no solid revenue source. As it is right now the site is losing thousands of dollars a month which is kind of expensive to pay for by ourselves. We're gonna revamp our revenue source so that we can sustain ourselves and then try to come back strong with a renewed focus on a better experience for our users. It's not going to happen instantly though so maybe check back in a few months.
If I were in your position (of paying the bill of over 1000USD/month to continue running this site/forum), I'd be even more oppressed seeing the forum's activity these days mostly circumfluent in the spam thread topic and a few other non-constructive/non-productive/non-contributive topic; I'd be screaming, panicking, and hyperventilating by now. It's not a small amount to keep paying off regardless how rich you are. Either I'd do something immediately to salvage or turn the table around, or put a lid on it to minimize the cost generating factors, or worst case scenario I'd pull the plug. Which I believe you won't want to do the last resort, but if I were in your position, with monthly income far from that cost, I'd pulled it long ago.
It's largely my own fault because I was focusing on Oppo and OnePlus to the extent that I simply didn't do anything on RomUlation. These days it doesn't fit into the picture with the service level the competition offers. But I'm going to give it a try and see if I can get it back up and running. Right now I'm figuring out the money situation, after that we'll update the forum to some better software and start working on new site features that will be useful with the way ROM sites are today. I actually already have the code of the new code ready, I just need a design and will start that part once I figure out the money situation.
¿What offers romsites you speak about? Romulation has the best UI of all websites, by far, EP becomes clunky when searching for roms, romnation is sadly imprecise, ngemu needs of an account in order to download and even then iirc youa re limited to a single file per 48 hours. So far romu for me has an advantage, maybe if there was more space to offer some extra retro systems (iirc romu only does gbc, nes, snes and n64, no wonderswan, sega, etc.)
Cool to hear! I personally really like our filtering and sorting system, it's one of the more complicated pieces of tech on the site. In the up-coming redesign one of my focus areas is going to be on game discovery. How do we take users from "Holy shit, I can play console games on my PC?" to "Holy shit, why hadn't I ever heard of this game before?" It probably won't be in the initial version because right now I just want to get to launch the damn thing but it's something I'm quite excited to start working on.
seph if worse comes to worst I hope you can get to keep the forums going, because for some of us RomU is our home on teh interwebz ;D
Well we unexpectedly got premium going again so we'll keep on trucking for a while yet! I've already begun working on the redesign again.
