I got the same problem as you.

You won't understand this. There is an Internet feature called an encryption where it actually has security settings that block Nintendo Wi-Fi from being used, and the thing you need is an encryption called WEP. Call your Internet manager to add it for a low price (I dunno, is that how you do it, just try anyway).

P.S. Research about WEP in Wikipedia if you don't get this.

you change the settings on your router, you don't have to pay anything. Also it's a wireless feature, nothing to do with the internet. The problem is there are several kinds of encryption and the DS is only compatible with the weakest one.

...Did you set the router yourself?

If not ask the one who did to do it-they have rather annoying amounts of options to change, one wrong move and you would be stuck with a dodgy wireless connection (like I was until I got a pc wiz to do it)

Each router is different, it seems easy but you have to actually have some idea to do it...

To change it if your using a netgear brand router type in the defualt adress (usually on the underneath of it-take note of the user name and password as well) and enter the adress into your web browser...

Once there locate the internet options (in that "site" your in)...or look around on this screen (I hope you entered your user name and password or you won't be here)

You might be using WPA right now (which always shows as a grey lock on on ds's) so if you find anything about it change it to wep, and enter a password...BUT REMEMBER WHAT IT IS AND THE OLD WPA JUST INCASE!

Use the weakest encryption (64bit I think) to make things quick, enter in something and these pass key things fill up...take note of the first option...

That is the one the ds needs...

    Save the changes and quit.

But you need to have your router connecter directly to your pc for this to work, and if the adress on the router don't work (once set up) you will need to enter a "defualt" adress which you can just google...if you have a netgear then I'll pm the adress...

But I HIGHLY RECOMEND YOU GET SOMEONE WHO IS CLOSE BY WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO THIS TO TRY TO CHANGE IT AS I HAVEN'T DONE THIS IN AGES AND MAY NOT BE CORRECT!
If I were there I might have worked it out...but here I'm not so helpful, sorry :(

there is no difference between 64 bit and 128bit wep. Also theres no need to PM the address, its probably 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

the nintendo DS is not compatible with WPA, so unfortunately you need to change it to WEP.

    I only see WPA , WPA2 WPA-PSK , WPA2-PSK and open
    Not WEP

Depending on where you live (ie, is there people around you?) you might just turn off the encryption all together.

I mean, if there is no one around you for a thousand feet, there is no real reason to hide your wireless.

Here is the user manual for your DSL router.
    http://www.speedtouch.nl/docs/ST780sip_UserGuide.pdf

    Edit:
Look at section 1.2 to see how to connect to your router.
Look at section 2.3.3 to see how to change your security settings, it shows WEP as a selectable option.

I got a router named NetComm. And plus, is it REALLY true to have 2 encryptions at the same time?

I think it can... but I've never used it. I've got a Linksys (big name here in the US, don't know about the Australia market).

Seems you can set up WEP and WPA on it. But I'd read a manual before trying it :)

It is not possible to have two encryption standards running at once on one network (SSID). If your router can run multiple SSIDs, then you can run different encryptions on them.

Because I'm frightened that an intruder can hack and destroy my PC if I use WEP!

having two encryptions wouldn't help that, they'd just break the weaker of the two.

Yeah but do you have any ideas on how to change it and change it back to my old security settings whenever I finish with Wi-Fi.

unfortunately not, I've never even heard of netcomm so I can't tell you how to set it up.

I think I know how to change it:

Do you go to Control Panel, then the Wirless Network Setup wizard, then select automatic then type a name of your network and that's it.

Also is WEP dangerous and am I able to change it back to my old one.
