I finally got SNES9X & am testing it out, I just want to ask about what these files are, as I'm not familiar with this emulator yet:

The fmod.dll file was bundled with the emulator but what is it? Is it important?

the snes9x, microsoft office outlook config, stderr, stdout & the valid.EXT files were generated, along with the saves, cheats & roms folders when I first loaded a ROM, the other two folders are my own, they contain all of my Emulation utilities as well as my patching tools

    Oh right well..

Oh right, well the snes9x config file which should be .cfg extension if you didn't hide it, basically that contains all of the Snes9x settings you have configured. It says Outlook because that's the program you set .cfg files to load from. Best to just use Notepad. You can easily just change the settings in the file as well. If you want to get the default settings back, just delete it and run Snes9x again, and it will create a new .cfg config file. The stdout.txt file is used to direct on where to save the .config file which is set to the same folder as Snes9x as default once you start Snes9x of course. Open it with Notepad, and it will show you that's what it does. The sdterr.txt I think is for errors in games and the emulator, which are recorded in there, I'm pretty sure of it. The fmod.dll is a specific library needed for Snes9x to work, so when you load it, it registers it. Not anything bad of course. The valid.ext file just tells Snes9x what extensions to use and to look for when loading games, so basically you'll need all of those files. If you accidentally delete them, just start Snes9x again and it should create new ones.

thanks anand, actually the reason why I'm so hesitant to use snes9x was because when I first downloaded it two months ago, it was exactly at the time I got bugged by the sasser worm, remember the time I posted that I got zapped when I voted on the Top sites? That was when I first got snes9x, then after two hours, my PC began restarting like crazy, symptoms of the virus. I had to reformat & lost everything then, I'm not blaming the emulator though, I'm just a little scared of getting zapped again.

Really, to this day, I can't tell where exactly I got that friggin' virus, someone even said that I might have gotten it from a n0rp site, but I never go to those places as I've lost interest in n0rp years ago, really none of that crap excites me anymore :p

Oh right, as you long as you got it from www.snes9x.com, you'll be fine, I don't think the developers would put viruses inside their own emulator :p

I got it at Emulator Zone as RomUlation swears by it :)

the stderr and stdout files are not necessary, they are probably only used when debugging is enabled.

Yeah, they're not necessary after playing a game on Snes9x, but stdout and stderr are required for the first time using Snes9x.
