I know that the r4 firmwares are mostly dead, but i was just wondering if a normal person like me can make my own firmware for the r4, which will support many of the new games coming out? or if someone else can take the time to make one
I suppose you could, if you had the knowledge of extensive coding and planning.... And somehow got the source code to the R4 firmware....
You will have to be able to code for nds, compile the code for nds, and keep the firmware up to date with the latest games. You'd also need to create a UI if you wanted to. I think there's a firmware that will support the R4 that is coming out soon. It's called Menudo. I'm not sure if it's for the R4, but it's supposedly one of the best 3rd party firmwares ever developed. http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=217417
From what I understand, MENUdo is only an OS. It won't fix any compatibility problems that you have with your games on the R4, only give you a new system to select the games you want to play and organize your files.
r4li is working on a new firmware for original r4 already: http://r4stillalive.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=77266548
Same thing for R4 Ultra except they haven't responded to my emails. Last I checked, it was updated on 20-10-2009.
