Hi, im currently using an AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor with 3.6 ghz with MSi(MS-7693 x2.x) 970A/S-G46 motherboard(i hope this is the right information needed lol). Im wondering what kind of processor that supports this. Im looking at an i7 intel processor but im unsure if its compatible and im not good with compatibility stuff, just installation so if any pros know what will work, please shed some light on me :)

Edit: Here is the exact motherboard that i have: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/970A-G46.html

intel and AMD are no longer cross compatible (they were in the PII days) You currently have the best AMD processor on the market (excluding the 3 higher clocked models).

Also the 965 is 3.4Ghz so either its overclocked, you're mistaken or its not a 965. 3.6Ghz would make it a 975

I swear loony, you are a technology god ^^

Oh, and 1 more thing, i saw 8 core AMD processors on some sites. Wouldnt that make them possibly better?

Yes you can upgrade to an AMD FX 83xx, however, they're not necessarily better than the phenom IIs. If the software you are using can use all 8 cores, then yes an FX is better than a phenom II. However, if the software cannot use all 8 cores (the vast majority of software cannot), then the Phenom II is the better processor, despite the FX being clocked higher. AMD have dropped the ball with the FX series and per core they are outperformed by the Phenom II
