I'm having the strangest problem. I've got a new MSI R6570 graphics card and it's killing my sound. I'm running XP Home SP3. I put my old graphics card back in and I have sound. Could somebody please tell me why?

not very easily without more information.

My best guess would be it's changing the default sound device to be the HDMI output on the graphics card. try going into the sound applet in control panel and switching it back.

Sound card: I'm thinking it's Real Tek because that's the drivers I install for it.
    I'm running windows xp home.
And my sound card is part of my motherboard.

Would you believe Realtek isn't even listed? All I see in there are my Logitech USB headphones.

This maybe of no real help to you but have you considered a full reformat.

that's completely unnecessary and way overkill

What happens if you delete the device in device manager, then scan for new hardware?

Thanx anyway Loony but I've given up. I guess this card isn't compatible with my computer afterall.
