Being short on space but reasonably well off with cash I'm thinking of getting a gaming laptop. I'm not much of a computer gamer so I wanted to get something to handle computer games unlike the crappy Vaio I have now. The Acer Aspire 8930 seems like a good laptop, I can't link you to the site as Acer's website isn't very friendly, permalink, my arse. So, i'm willing to spend up to £1000 but would prefer it to be in the £750 to £900 price range, maybe even lower. Any suggestions or comments about the laptop i've seen?
£1 grand puts you well into the ultra mobile category(if space is really a problem), Loonylion knows his stuff in this field.
If you're looking to spend that much on a laptop, you can get a much BETTER pc...Pcs are better to get, they're known for longevity and much more reliable. Laptops are way to faulty for my taste and I have a decent HP Pavilion dv2500 series limited edition running Windows Vista sp2 32bit, 2gb ram, and 160gb HDD (400gb external) and standard graphics card....I've had it since the summer of 2007 right before heading to college....And now already have a battery on order as mine is completely dead (it literally says 0% and does nothing else) lol which makes my laptop temperature skyrocket randomly and when getting too hot the laptop will shut itself off because of that. (it's own defense mechanism) lol I'm a big tech geek as well...I take care of anything tech wise in my life. lol So besides that, everything's fine, but for running GAMES, especially todays PC games that require such impeccable hardware, it's best to find a PC for cheaper with the right hardware (you want a dual-core processor, at LEAST 3-4gb ram especially to run Vista, a ATI or Nvidia graphics card of some sort and prob over 200gb hdd (which most already come with))....as they are much cheaper....Or if you still want a laptop, wait around "school season" is approaching as many sales come through...I'd go with Best Buy of course or the actual company site....HP is the best for this Unless you got enough to go crazy and get an Alienware....lol But yea, specifically if you want something that'll last ya, go with a PC......just food for thought. (hope anything helped)
http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home/Laptops/xpsnb_m1730/pd.aspx?refid=xpsnb_m1730&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1 Dell.co.uk XPS gaming laptop. I think that is exactly what you are looking for, but they are 999 GBP on the cheapest.
Hmm, you've convinced me a bit more to get a PC But the specs on those laptops are lower than the cheaper Acer Aspire's plus, there's so many icky vista laptops Yes it seems that way So any suggestions on Gaming laptops? Preferably £750 to £850, maybe lower?
My first advice for you? DON'T. As loony said, you're better off buying a halfway decent desktop / small form factor (the Shuttle comes to mind, although I don't know about their quality. ; at least you can upgrade it. If you still insist, I might suggest at least buying from a well known brand that supports Linux. Why? Because when time comes you get bored of gaming on a quickly obsolete laptop, at least you know what to do with it
...They are right, while my laptop is good (does halo 2, devil may cry 4, but BARLEY does ps2 emulation) and has blue ray (thus curbing me away from a ps3) it doesn't allow powerful upgrades... If your happy to skip gaming goodness go for the laptop-the idea of mine was just for web viewing, but with some power as a bonus-not an emulator warehouse! BTW...my laptop has 2 gb ram, and it does vista well...I blame the lag it has (for no reason when offline) on the fact that 4 games and a pile of junk which I cbf moving to my external drive, has filled it half way...
Yeah, I won't get a laptop My laptop is about as good as yours, great for the net, can play emu's, mmo's and some PC games; no good for the best internet games like TF2 and stuff though D: I've been thinking of building my own but I usually mess stuff up Haha no
I had to learn the hard way, laptops are nice, but not good for gaming especially if you want to stay on top of new games, i'd been better off building a desktop, but shit happens, maybe next time.
Well, maybe he want something portable so that he can play games anywhere, i dont suppose you can bring a desktop, even how small it is, anywhere you go. @cj, mostly what games do you play? cause if its not resource biggy, then i will try and help you find a laptop that can play the games you want and even enjoy the juice it can hold in its battery. Cause, i like old games like age of mythology, warcraft, diablo's, civilization, sim city, sims, and stronghold crusader... and my acer aspire one...and its a 8'9 inch screen can play those games. but if you are not buying, its okay, nothing beats a good desktop in playing games and the plus factors....
wow, then, its really a "gaming laptop"... my cousin bought one of those, very high-end, i think he bought it in the US for 3000 USD... not worth it in my opinion. but anyway, can i know what those "any game" you want? and how long do you play those games?
My desktop I built can run pretty much all games. It only cost me about 950$ (about 677 Euros according to google). You can find it's specs here https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?topic=18752.0 . Running Crysis at all high at 40 fps.
pretty much the same for me, i built one for €551 (amd phenom X4, samsung HDD 500GB, Kingston RAM 4GB, asus eah4850 (ati radeon hd4850)). it's much cheaper that way, and you can get a much better computer. i saw yesterday one for sale, fifty euros more expensive than mine, with the same cpu but with a crappy 9600GS graphics card. DO go for a desktop pc and if possible, build it.
well, the point of having a gaming laptop is to play those games anywhere. but what i want to see in the future is a portable battery for a small-form desktop...but thats way into the future..
