How about not updating or using the dsi shop?

They will dump the downloadables some day..but most of it is just content ripped from other games...ie brain training or dr mario (also from brain training)...

that wont stop them from including the patched firmware on a newly made DSi.....

Well, they sure hate flashcarts (especially Square Enix with their latest DQIX and KH security system, it sure took a while to hack), and they'll do like anything to stop them, but hackers will always have a way to pass it.

Anyway, I think I'd stick to my NDSlite for now...

Well, it should work. I wonder if the later DSi games will require firmware update or there will be games with update installer. Who knows?
    Edit:
This one's very likely to happen. Now flashcarts manufacturer must be very smart or they products will be unusable.

I wish this would happen soon. I'm itching to try some of them actually.

Good to see Nintendo continuing it's insane quest to punish piracy in a way that impedes gamers' enjoyment of their games/systems. Just like back when they decided to stick with carts for the N64, even though they were more expensive & less capable technology-wise than CDs. Or making the Gamecube games super-tiny & not DVDs, again constraining developers, & making it so we can't even pop an audio CD in there. Kind of sucks for Average Joe Gamer, since pirates 1) don't give a flying rats ass, & 2) have way more time & dedication for getting free crap than Nintendo does for making a few more mountains of money off Mario's decrepit, saggy buttocks.

I'm not advocating that Nintendo suddenly go the route of SEGA, & release games on a format so laughably easy to rip, upload, &/or burn, but there has to be a happier medium than this.

This is the same on going war with PSPs and now it's happening to the DSi. Anything is possible and by that I mean if the PSP users were able to beat or catchup to $ony's every move then DSi users will surely be able to beat or catch up to N!ntendo's every move in firmware updating as well. Besides the DS was easier to get roms to work on when compared to PSP's trying to get their ISO files to work.

  14. So, does this mean that wifi multiplayer is now impossible when using flash carts? I don't like the idea of playing FF CC: Echoes of Time with dumb AIs.

By the way, I'm kinda surprised that this topic hasn't got many views considering how important this news is to anyone with a DSi and flash cart. I mean, pretty much all of the flash carts that aren't firmware upgradable have been killed off.

Just give the pros time, and they will render the firmware "flashcart-friendly".

Where did you get that idea? That's not the case.

  17. Well, that's a relief. I just thought that connecting through wifi would force the firmware to update or something. By the way, I don't have a DS yet - it should be coming in the mail pretty soon though.

Oh, I see what you mean. I don't think an update is forced when simply playing online, but only when you try to access the DSi Shop or something.

  19. Phew, just got my secondhand DSi this morning. I was so nervous when I realised that the previous owner may have updated the firmware to 1.4, but I checked the settings and it said 1.3a. So, I guess my M3i zero is good to go.
It'll be interesting to see if the M3 people will actually live up to their claim that the flashcart firmware is upgradable.
