New at anime! What to know?

I am new at anime but at looking at some pics I like it!

But I don't know a thing about anime...

Can you people say what is needed to know?
So that people who are also intrested know also the basics...

Anime is a type of Japanese Animation.

And be advised some people WILL kill you if you call anime a cartoon....
The extremists mainly.

I just see it as another form of drawings that are animated.

It is very different than the Western type of animation (Americas) and has developed greatly over the past 20 years.

You need to know that Naruto and Bleach aren't the greatest animes/mangas ever created

 

In Japan, anime isn't a style, but a medium. Yes, Scooby-Doo is considered anime in Japan. In the West, "anime" often refers to anything drawn with big expressive eyes, or anything animated in Asia. An example of an anime that defies the stereotype of always having absurdly immature women with absurdly big eyes is Le Chevalier D'Eon.

You can't call yourself a fan of anime unless you've seen at least three Studio Ghibli movie, and no, Earthsea does not count.

The English dubs of anime are almost always terrible... So far the only one I can commend on a decent job on dubbing is Disney. When it comes to Ghibli movies, that is.

If its seen on TV, its not the greatest ever. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, some being The Big O, Cowboy Bebop, Eureka Seven, and a few others. But still they are not the greatest ever.

No, anime is a form of entertainment no different from films and dramas. The only difference is that the Wapanese tend to stick with anime and manga for reasons unexplained.

anime will tell stories that will keep you wanting more, that's the main reason i watch anime. Some good anime to start with may be Rurouni Kenshin, Bleach and Naruto. There are the most popular but not the best. There's a lot more much more trilling anime's out there!
