I need to ask this technical inquiry for a friend's computer....

My friend was given an authentic Windows XP Professional installation disk by one of his relatives who are abroad. Unfortunately for him, the disk is in Dutch. He asked me if there is a way to install the OS using his Disk but have it in English. I keep telling him during the installation process you can opt to change which language you want your OS to use. He keeps insisting you can't according to his other friends.

Now what infuriates me is the guy doesn't know how to use a computer, sure he can turn it on & off & surf the net & other tasks but he doesm't know how the machine works :p

Formatting a hard drive & installing an OS is so difficult for him :p

He'd rather pay a computer technician to format & install an OS than do it himself. I keep telling him that installing an OS is cake & I even pointed him to several how to pages & videos on youtube so he can learn but he's just so effin' stubborn :p

Anyway, I'm pretty sure selecting the language preferences for a computer is possible during installation & I've even read "answers" on Yahoo! Answers telling it can be done.

But for the sake of being absolutely certain, can you really install WinXP in English if your installation disk is in Dutch or any other languages for that matter?

it is possible if the disc contains other languages. you have to get through the install to a certain point first though, I dont recall with XP, it might not be possible to change the language until after its installed, and/or it might require a MUI disc.

A MUI Disc? Are those available at Microsoft's site?

Thanks for the hot lead loony :)

I think they're supposed to be bought separately.

I've got a XP disc right here, and it's also a dutch one. When I boot it I can decide wether I want to continue the installation in Dutch, French, German or English.. So if his disc is a dutch one, he should be able to do that too., I assume.
