Hey guys, my buddy needs some picking out a video card. I have no idea whats top of the line and mid line these days, so I need some help in giving him a couple of suggestions =x. This is his mobo http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3517184&CatId=2541 he is using 2gb of ddr2 RAM and plans on playing alot of Wold of Warcraft. He doesnt need anything extremely new, but something can run some recent games *maybe not the newest but you get my drift i think =p*

    Any ideas?

either loony or equitypetey will be able to help when they get on, they each know the facts and figures for the 2 main brands on the market and will be able to advise you :)

loony will give you the nvidia option i will give you the ati option

world of warcraft is not that graphic intensive so don't need anything big there.
if he wants midrange price and a card that will run all the new games on high for the next year i suggest the HD 4670

but if he wants something that will get him by and is not bothered by the best graphics then for pocket change he can pick up a x1650
which currently runs most things fine on normal specs and will do for a while.

nvidia's best midrange card right now is probably the 9800GT, although I'm running everything fine on an 8800GTX. I believe the GTX 295 (absolute most top of the range card) is due out soon, so if he waits until that is out there should be a downward shift in price on all the other cards, although if he has the money I'd suggest the GTX 260 (cheapest of the most current series)

nVidia 8500GT can run recent games too, but it's getting a bit old, I say a 9 series should do well.

For WoW, he doesn't need anything remotely fancy.

a good graphics card will help in places like daralan where theres loads of people (and in shattrah. where the graphics lag is particularly bad) and in raids where you've got 25-50 people spamming spells everywhere.
