Hello, I'm planning to upgrade my pentium 4 with a new processor. I was told that it is better to go with the Intel Dual-Core or Intel-Quad Core. I'm not very computer literate so I don't really know what to do. Can anyone please teach me whats the main difference between this two? Preferably in layman term... ;D ;D
AMDs are cheaper and lower power (== easier to cool and cost less to run), so I never use intel. The difference between dual and quad core is they are multiple processors on one chip, two for dual, four for quad. Dual core helps you multitask, (i.e it enables you to do multiple cpu intensive things at once, such as ripping/burning a DVD and playing a game at the same time). Quad core is more for if you do VERY CPU intensive jobs (video rendering/editing/transcoding, 3D modeling and the like) and the software is able to make use of multiple processors (referred to as 'SMP capable or SMP aware) to get the job done faster. If the software is not able to use multiple processors, you will see little if any benefit over a dual core.
Intel's are alright... but like Loony mentions, it is overpriced compared to AMD. If you decide on AMD cpu, avoid this AMD cpu chipset like the plaque. AMD QUAD 9550. .. Faulty design in wafer.
I distinctly remember seeing a AMD athlon...i think in one of their shelves. Is it good? Its paired with a RED FOX motherboard as a bundle, while INTEL is paired with ASUS.
never heard of red fox, do you mean foxconn? Also, need more details about the athlon, there's a lot of different athlons.
I checked their leaflet, they have: AMD Sempron LE1250 AM2 AMD Athlon LE1620 AM2 AMD Athlon X2 5200 AM2 which AMD should I get?
amd are cheap but they also burn really quick and most intel cpu are worth the money in the long run ;D
