Dragon Quest IX is especially awesome if you got some mates to play it with, the multiplayer of it is awesome.

Aside from that, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Pokemon Black/White, Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, The World Ends with You and my favourite, Radiant Historia.

No. The multiplayer is purely an optional thing.

Graphics: They both are build in the same engine, so the graphics are the same.
Story wise: None (I don't like the story in those two games)
Gameplay wise: That's a hard one, but Spirit Tracks was a bit more fun.

Spirit Tracks was overall just better presented, I think.
Phantom Hourglass does have Captain Linebeck though, who rocks.

    *Facepalm*.....
You're never going to experience the best RPG gaming if you go this way.The best thrill in RPG is finding our own way.You have to experiment, try and play.Trial and error is the best method.Who knows? The games that someone doesn't like or reccommend you MAY be of your great liking.

People don't reccomend Tactics Ogre much, many don't like that boring gameplay. But, I find it much interesting.Hence, you have to try your own path.Don't say "I don't have time to do such experiments". Because if you don't have time to dedicate on RPGs, you'll not enjoy playing them swiftly based on reccomendations.I'm telling this from my own experience.

Now, go, take a deep breath, reflect on your ideals, randomly choose a RPG title and play! Finding your own path is your firsst quest!
May the Eternal Mother bless you, young warrior.
