This review is based upon the game Jump! Ultimate Stars which can be translated by watching the youtube video here.

The game starts with an opening video of numerous Anime/Manga stars though you can’t skip this part so some patience is required unfortunately. However, thanks to the translation (which I must add is not 100% on everything with some minor spelling mistakes) you can eventually work out what to do and I will refer back to this at a later time.

    The Game
    Menu:
As shown below is the main menu screen which allows numerous options. These are as follows (listing from left to right)
Adventure Mode, Arena Mode, Multiplayer Mode, (I still have yet to unlock this), Deck Maker, Power Mode (You can upgrade your deck here, will explain later), Player Info and also then the Options Menu.

    Story Mode:
The story mode is sometimes simplistic but can be complicated mostly due to translational issues but after a while you can work out what to do on most of them. Now the tutorial is pretty long and there’s a lot to take in but here is where the translation has helped immensely (so thanks to the author for that). The tutorial shows you what the basics are, how to use your deck, how to ‘evolve’ your characters and also shows you how to do special moves and combos. Going through the sotry mode can sometimes be tricky for example you have to survive rounds without having the likes of Goku and Vegeta after you for up to 3 minutes (as I’ve seen so far). Others include death match you just win by killing everyone else, point match you get 2 points for killing someone with a special attack and also 1 point for a normal kill but you also lose these points if you are killed by the same way.

The game play itself is rather fun and interactive. You can switch by clicking your fighters or your support characters on your deck (shown below) you also have numerous other characters giving you bonuses to your fighters. You can’t, however, bring these characters out to fight and your support characters are AI.

    Multiplayer:
The multiplayer within this game is truly great. It is fun and well thought out plus I was playing with people from Japan with little to no lag (this is from England). A great thing about this multiplayer is the rival system. Once you have finished a battle you can then save the rival data which allows you to use the players decks within the story mode of the game. So the more people your fight online the more character decks you can use in story mode even if you haven’t unlocked them yet. This however does not apply to online battles, only unlocked characters can be used.

Presentation, Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, and Lasting Appeal:
(Presentation) As this game is Japanese and has been translated by a 3rd party source I’ve decided to give the presentation of this game a 7/10 simply because it is easy to follow but as there are linguistic issues it does take some time a patience to work everything out.

(Graphics) The graphics are rather nice for the NDS which I will be giving an 8/10 for due to the fact that the sheer number of characters and their custom graphics fit well within each of the levels.

(Sounds) Sounds within this game, being a Manga and Anime fan are rather special. They provide the player with great diversity while playing well over a 100 character database thus I’m giving it 8/10.

(Game Play) The game play while being simplistic when fighting can become repetitive though I urge you to try this game and not let this put you off. While pressing the same several buttons continuously each character is played differently so there is diversity to the fighting game play itself. There is also the ability to customize your deck to how you see fit so there are endless options to suit however you play. 9/10

(Lasting Appeal) Lasting Appeal, Well to be honest fighting games eventually get boring but the online multiplayer allows for great interaction with other users. Putting your own deck up against others (you can also save their decks to check out how they used the system) is a great way to show how much of the game you have done as well as show off your skills. 7/10

    ~Overall 39/50.

This is my first review so please leave any feed back with anything I’ve done wrong or anything I can build upon,
    Etan.

Good review. A few thoughts, maybe you could expand on the storyline a little, fighters never have much of a story to them but some people may be interested and your section on sounds could be improved as I did not reallly understand what you meant. Also, as you're reviewing on Romulation you could have mentioned the fan translation of the game into English.

All in all, a good review of a good game, nice job.

Pretty good review. Try to go more into a subject, as prinnydood stated.

    I'll give your review a 7.5/10
