Images from Wikipedia/Gamespot:I don't own Final Fantsay or any affiliates at all. Only Square Enix owns Final Fantasy. But I do own a copy of the game. Publisher:Square Enix Developer:Square Enix Think & Feel Inc. Release DateBy Country) JP: April 26, 2007 NA: November 20, 2007 Europe: February 15, 2008 Category:Tatical RPG (TRPG) point and click with a DS stylus Rating: I only know the ESRB: 10+ Final Fantasy, what keeps this franchise alive, is it the title, the fans or is it Square Enix's extraordinary ability to creat some pretty interesting games. I will be reviewing more final fantasy titles, but the one that everyone should at least play. This game is Final Fantasy:Revenant Wings. Personally I'm wasn't a big fan of their turn based games, but I will agree they are classic and good, but when I heard about this style of a game I wasn't sure on how I felt about it. After playing it, I loved it. There's a lot to be said for Square Enix's ingenuity(sorry if I spelled that wrong), they were able to create such an interesting game. This game really shown in it's plot, of course I love all that magic, with betrayals and such. On the other hand the gameplay was great. Being able to summon monsters and setting up a real plan...Well I'll save that for later. Presentation - 8/10 The story itself is very good. It's pretty much out there for you fantasy lovers. You've got the RPG characteristics of summoning spirits to equipping to your characters. The story itself is deep, and throughout the game are twists and turns that most will not see coming. The game has a lot of depth and the characters grow. In most game the side quests seem so boring but in this game it only adds to the excitement Graphics - 8/10 On visual aspects, I'd have to say it's good, I'm not super impressed with it's images, but it's on a handheld. Nothing much to say here except that some of the images could of gotten a touch-up but otherwise nothing unsightly. The movement of characters on the map seems fine. The maps are big enough so that it requires the use of one screen for zooming in, and another for the general battlefield. Those were the in-game visuals, but the cinematic views were astonishing. I really loved them. I can't explain it but I can show it. Battlefield: Cinematic screenshot: Gameplay - 10/10 This is where the game really shown through. It was in the game play, though I'm usually not too impressed with DS click-and-point I found this to be interesting. The AI isn't stupid and has various strategies (otherwise I must of sucked) and the point of this game is to fulfill the victory conditions and they could be from killing an enemy to getting all the treasure. Summoning is also a big part as the monsters you summon constitute the large part of your army. Revenant Wings has more summons (Espers) ever. You learn new summons by first unlocking a pact in the ring of pacts and entering the required number of Auracites(You get from missions). In the battle zone these monsters are summoned by a Summon gate. At first you start with only a few Espers but as the progress continues and you capture more Summon gates you can summon more Espers. Espers have different ranks which determine how many you can summon and also types such as fire and water. Meaning there are elemental weaknesses. You also have the ability to create items through synthesizing. One more highpoint is that some Espers(the powerful ones) are unlocked by the side quests. Sound - 8/10 This is context based music, it's good it's deep and after some research I realized that it was constantly playing until certain circumstances were fulfilled. For example, if your losingm there will be bad music, but If you turn the battle around there is more positive music. Replayability 8/10 This is one of those games where the endings are determined by how much you actually play. SO the replay ability is based on how much you actually do. In fact if you finish the game you probably don't have a 100% completion rate, so in order to do that you need to synthesize everything and do everything in the game in order to get the true ending. there is a lot of replay ability. Overall: If you own a DS try and get your hands on this game. Buy it I like it and it's pretty original. Your bound to love the story and watching your enemies crumble by the power of your forces. It's got good music, beautiful cinematics , and it's deep. What more could you ask for? 42/50, I like it and so did he
my favourite summoner is also ifrit... very strong... my favourite chara is van, kyte and lyud... the three top strongest..
This game was really fun for me at the beginning, good story and old rock-paper-scissors gameplay, but I started to get really frustrated when I had to be in control of A LOT of characters and Espers, I just ended up rushing all of them to one target even not taking into account the r-p-s system. So I just stopped playing.
It's good at the start, however it just gets annoying having to get all your espers and characters and monsters moving around at the same pace.
Oh, saying this before, because I don't want you to feel I disagree with you. The review is good, I am just discussing it. oh, and I might throw spoilers, if I do, sorry. I have to disagree on the graphics rating. I myself found the characters and espers rather unfitting and lazy in-battle. Why? Well a quarter of the sprites for Characters are directly taken from Final fantasy tatics advance 1. DIRECTLY, that's the lazy. Also, while a rock or a patch of dirt is impressively done, the sprites themselves left me in aw. A rock could be more impressive than the little mage that was mining it, and I felt the contrast a LOT - that's the unfitting. I find this kind of stuff, reusing stuff again, but in a bad fashion, deserving an even lower rating than 8, but not lower than 7, sorry. On the other hand, I would give music a 9. If anyone noticed, most themes are from FFXII... BUT - They actually are more well context fiting in this title than in it's original. I've played FFTA2, and HELL, someone put a big boss fight in frimelda's solo battle against the blademaster. The guy wasn't that much of a character and battler to deserve such a rare tune to hear in that game, plus the side-storyline involving him and frimelda's zumbiism was really confusing! What a let down to waste such a rare tune on a guy one easily beats by teaching Frimelda something as simple as counter! Other's like the Five kings deserved it better. This doesn't happen in this title however. Every tune seems to be in-place, in fact, it seems to be more in-place than they were in FFXII (maybe except the "Archades Empire theme in Ivalice world map), and they keep their memorable rithym to them. And that's why I would give it a 9 even thought they came from another game. I would say that I couldn't agree on a perfect 10 out of 10 in gameplay, but I think it can be fair, the game is the best it could be. My problem here is that you can win almost every mission by just sending out Espers to kill your enemies, while leaving your leaders near the summoning gate, thus never losing (Maybe except esper fights. They seem to take a liking in coming after you after you killed them a bit and everything else in the field is dead). But since this isn't a problem with the controls, but part of the game, there's not much point argueing about it. Oh, and one point to notice: You can have 100% when you finish the game the first time. You can actually have 100% without finishing it at all. You just have to lose the last mission (the very last, not the one before it) and go back to the world map instead of retrying. There 100%, game unfinished! For me, as a completionist, the game has near to none replayability, only optional stuff, so I wouldn't go picking it up again after finishing it. PS: Me loves Ifrit! HELLFIRE!!!
i hate the controls just hate it. i always click aaway from my characters and its so dam hard to re--selcet
Should have made it more like warcraft/starcraft/c&c/ect where you can select your members, tell them where to go and then NOT have to reselect them. Maybe there was a shortcut to this, maybe you got this later, but I didn't get hooked into the game and only played a few missions. :-\
i thought that summoning and game play both needed some serious work in order to acheive a liked and workable game
I hate the click gameplay part, it's so hard and annoying for me. I prefer the usual FF style of battle. Maybe i just hate those kind of fighting RPG games that needs me to be very active. I love the graphics though, it's considered very good for DS.
I consider it a must own if your a fan of FFXII otherwise just pass lol. Might just be because I'm not the biggest fan of DS maybe. I like the fact that vaan looks younger even though he's older
why would they make a game based on FF XII anyway? every long-time FF fans knows that after FF X, the main line of Final Fantasy suck, that's why they don't put vaan and a custom character into Dissidia ps: the last image killed my bandwith
i've played this one, this was the first FF game i played on the DS... and it was okay.. i didnt have a GREAT experience like the other ones (FF3, FF4)
