you do need winrar unless you have some other program that opens .rar files.

Some use an alternative like 7-Zip.

    when you extract using winrar
where do you save winrar to ?
is it to your desktop or what ??

winrar is a program you install.

Forget winrar, 7zip performs a whole lot better.
I mean you should still install winrar because 7zip tends to stuff up alot on rar split files.
But for general use 7zip wins hands down.
    It's faster and more reliable.

I have never had any problems with winrar.

Also far less known and causes ten times as many "what is this? what do I do? HALP!!!one" questions as .rar. It'd be like .rar was 5 years ago, and trust me, it was annoying as hell.

...I find both about the same, i don't extract the whole folder, I just drag what I need out of it, I rarly have use for the compression it offers...

But could winrar open 7 zip folders, is what i'm on about...one site I went to in the past "suggested" I use 7 zip...

It's been good ever since...and without the annoying "buy me now" crap...

But at one point it did stop letting me use it...downloaded a different trial one..it worked on but with that annoying message!

...If you got it, experiment, the most you'd do is fill your desktop with files from a heavily packed folder...
