The third incarnation of the Call of Duty series on the Nintendo DS, Mobilized throws you into the ring with finding and disabling a nuclear device. The game attempts to mimic the Call of Duty experience on the Nintendo DS console with the game being controlled mainly by the touch screen and with half the DS buttons. Before I get started, I should note that the game should've been named Call of Duty: Hand Cramps. It's hard to find a comfortable position you can play for more than 20 minutes without a sore hand. Anyway, moving along. The story, is boring and, yes, cliched. Find a nuke. Wait, it's been moved. Wait, find it again. Wait, wait wait, oop, it's moved again. Nope, not gonna get away this time. Wait, it did. No, we got it this time. NO, DON'T SHOOT THA- good. OK, we got it. The graphics are AMAZING for a Nintendo DS game. Simply amazing. The models are high-poly, the locations are as detailed as can be expected, and the weapons are realistically rendered. I have to draw attention to the poor textures though - muddy, at best. The voice acting is pretty impressive - always a good set of characters with a good set of voices behind them. They tend to sound like they're coming through a radio the whole time, though. And some sound effects are pretty repetitive - most of the automatic weapons sound the same, and the dying sound from an enemy is the same EVERY SINGLE TIME. Gameplay is on par with the previous CoD DS games. Mostly hard to control, but coming over this will present you with a good way to control your player. Difficulty has been ramped up over the predecessors - expect a brutal beating the first time you play this. That brings us to the lasting appeal. The campaign, which lasts a few hours (6-8 for me) has a few interesting mini-games, but it loses it's interest after two times around, chucking Arcade Mode out the window. Challenges are impossible - I never got past the second mission, I was that frustrated after completing the first one. And Wi-Fi multiplayer might keep you occupied - if you can find a game in 20 minutes. The mini-games are incredibly easy and are almost EXACTLY the same every time. Presentation - Everything is simple and streamlined, and your goals are always explained clearly - a must for any first-person shooter. 8. Graphics - Fantastic for a Nintendo DS game. 3D is impressive, but the texture work brings this down a lot. 7. Sound - Well done voice acting, poor sound effects though. 7. Gameplay - Attempts to mimic the console versions. Pulls through with a few scratches. 8. Lasting Appeal - The campaign is repetitive, the challenges are unbeatable and the online multiplayer community is almost non-existent. 5. Overall - A good Call of Duty experience, but this took a few shots to the head on the way through development. 35/50.
I find the game to be quite fun. :| I see this review is kind of lopsided, to be honest. I can see that you're bashing the gameplay too much, you're not giving credit to the rewarding experience you get after you take down a whole wave of terrorists.
Really no need for that, everyone has different capabilities when it comes to games, and just for the record I myself found the controls quite dodgy. Pictures would be nice and maybe change it so it isn't lines of text in short paragraphs.
