It seems impossible that anything could survive, but amid the destruction there is hope... I will start the review by saying that this game is nothing short of amazing. I am a pretty big fan of the series and well I have just about every advance wars game in my possesion, and i didnt think twice about reserving this awesome ds title. Graphics--9/10 To start the graphics have been updated and now watching your battleship tearing the enemy land units apart is now even more fun than it used to be. Gone are the days of the happy go lucky warlords, killing countless soldiers and still managing to tell a joke or laugh about some childish issue within the game. No, instead you are left with a world barely alive, very few humans left in existence, and of course the usual its time to save whats left of the world story line. The land is almost completely destroyed, wasteland spreading for miles and somehow its still beautiful. Whether your fighting in the mountains or on the desolate plains, this game is quite the eye candy. Sound--8/10 The music is well, this game is no lumines, but needless to say it is inspiring. The game now has more of a metal like theme to it, and its no suprise that it fits right in with the rest of the game. Again, bringing massacre to enemy units while listening to some heavy riffs really can bring out the best in you, so I think music is important in a game, and days of ruin has my vote. Plot--8/10 The story line has you starting off with another well drawn character by the name of Will, right after he manages to dig through the rubble of his destroyed mess hall. Upon reaching the surface he finds only darkness and decay shortly before he is attacked by the first group of enemies called raiders, and yes the leader of this foul group is indeed quite the arrogant pessimistic type. Then the tutorials begin, and the game mechanics are quite easy to learn, pretty much a two minute thing if you played the rest of the series. Gameplay--10/10 The gameplay hasn't been changed much from the last game, though the changes they have made are quite good. For instance, units now have a level up feature, allowing one unit to gain three levels, that unit's attack and defense growing with each level until the unit reaches veteran level in which case a veteran jet squadron could mop the floor (or the sky) with a normal inexperienced enemy jet squadron. Also, CO's finally have a use beyond the CO powers of the last game. If a unit is driven onto a factory or HQ, you gain the option to have your CO board that unit raising its attack and defense stats considerably, at a price of course. Thus saving funds can be the key to victory. Lasting Appeal--10/10 Overall, AdvanceWars Days of Ruin could very well be one of the best stratgy titles this year. Many new features await you in your quest, and the game is quite pleasing to the eyes. The game has been changed from a theme of flowers and tanks, to blood and really big five cannon war tanks. I cannot say the change is bad though, and so this game gets the best possible vote from me. Nintendo has proved officially with this game that change is good, and Days of Ruin is a must have for stratgy lovers, and fans of the series. Graphics--9/10 Sound--8/10 Plot--8/10 Gameplay--10/10 Appeal--10/10 Score total: 45/50
