1) What I did before I lost it was a plain old restart. 2) I'm running XP Home. 3) I never had explorer opened in the first place! Post Merge: [time]1285594856[/time] No silly! I mean the start button that's usually attached to the left hand end of your task bar?!
Restart it again and see what it says. CTRL + ALT + DEL If you are lucky you have the menu, if you are unlucky you have the task manager... If you have the task manager press the power button of your PC, it will turn off anyway. Then turn it on again. Post Merge: [time]1285594947[/time] I know that one. That green button with a windows flag and "Start" on it.
Not internet explorer, just explorer. Its your start menu and stuff. Open task manager see if its running.
so let's try this, because it sounds to me that explorer is set to not start automatically, go to task manager, click new process, and type in : explorer.exe if your taskbar appears, i will continue, if not, i quit
My taskbar's here, it's just my start button that's missing but I'll try anything once so long as it doesn't kill me. And to answer the other guy, yes my explorer is running. That's why I'm all panicky about my start button missing. I'm thinking OK, if explorer IS running then how come I don't see it?!
When I connect a second monitor to my PC and activate it the taskbar doesn't appear on it...just the background.
Depends on how you have your dual monitor setup, I believe. I think some options will extend the taskbar across both monitors. Fenny, what happens when you press the "Windows" key (or, "alt option", what ever you wish to it). This should act exactly like pressing the "start" button and should show you where it is if it moved or disappeared.
