I've tried several different disks in my PS2 and it won't read any of them. It just goes to the browser and system menu. Could somebody please tell me if I should hold a funeral for my poor PS 2?
That, or just get a special disc that cleans the lens for you, run it a few times and see if that helps.
isopropyl alcohol is the sollution, I use it to clean PC's Motherboard and such, also I applied it in my PS2 who has same issue as yours, now it's like a baby again.
what has loony said every time you say to use alcohol with something? hmmmm...dumbfounds me why you wouldn't listen anyways, just try some sorta cleaning disk, it will clean your lens, and it may work again.
Hey comrade I didn't get that, what? Is it an indirect you're throwing on me? I don't play like that... I don't remember what he does say, I say this cuz this saved many stuff here that many techs say "can't do anything" I kinda laugh some times when people here say that ther's no way to fix a thing, but this alcohol does help to revive a hardware. If her console is dirty, clean the contacts is the best, this isopropyl alcohol hasn't many water in it, which makes it evaporate instantly. I has same problem as she does, and I used it and now it looks like a new baby ;D I use this isopropyl alcohol in many stuff as mother board, video cards, sound card, offboard lan card, processors, and all the stuff like that. Can use it on PlayStation 2 with no worry. Open the mind, study, see what others then him think. Do you blindly follow someone just cause she / he say something?
Well I tried both of my cleaning disks and they didn't work. Now I'll go try the sterile alchohol bit.
Wise words Ahem... If the disc are dirt or damaged that's one thing to think about, another could be the lense as said, or if your like me and have a mod chip, then expect the console to die soon. What's funny is my ps2 reads games copied from badly damaged disc, how the hell did I save that game I don't know...
I have had the same problems as you did from last year... Never use any liquid substance unless it says so, for it could damage the microchips of the motherboard system. I had to open up the entire console to figure this one out. It turns out the entire thing was clogged with dust and debris. The disc drive was dirty as well as the power supply. I recommend doing an autopsy with careful hands of coarse. Tools: screw driver (do not use magnetic ones), brush, tape (fixes the little wires that connect to the power button), flashlight (just in case it gets dark), and damp towel (H2O).
Just to let y'know... Isopropyl Alcohol I use here to clean Motherboard, Ram memory, GPUs, and all eletronic stuff, the PlayStation 2 is basically same. Go have a search, this alcohol is meant to clean those things.
Well I still prefer to use purely H2O now, since over time I have noticed that using any form of alcohol makes the chips more dependent upon it. And I searched wikipedia right here;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol#Production.
She would still have to use the CD drive to install things. That way she would not have to play any more discs from it, she could just refer to hard drive for her games. But that is not the case. She could just clean the entire thing like I did.
Take a look through this tutorial. It depends on what model of PS2 you have, but it's not an uncommon issue. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/guides/2003/11/ps2-repair-guide.ars/1
Well first of all how do you clean the entire console and second of all the PS2 had a hard drive just like my computer?! Post Merge: [time]1286884403[/time] Thanx but I don't think it'll work for mine because that's the old fat one and I've got the newer skinny one.
The console would have to be carefully opened and since you mentioned that your PS2 was the smaller version it does not support the internal disk drive. Slim PS2:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps2#Slimline
Isopropyl alcohol is non-conductive and evaporates in seconds, its perfectly safe. Magnetic screwdrivers will not damage microchips. There is nothing in a PS2 that can be damaged by magnets. This is the stupidest thing I've ever read. Water conducts electricity and doesnt evaporate easily. You'll end up frying something. Electronics do not become dependent on alcohol, only humans do, and the alcohol you use for cleaning electronics is highly toxic so don't even think about it.
Okay the isoprophyl alcohol is fine its just that in the past as a kid I carelessly exposed most of my old cartridges to alcohol and that made me more cautious now. But on the water part I use a damp towel to remove most of the dirt, I do not flush my things with a bucket load, and I would never attempt to plug any machinery in after I have cleaned it...unless of coarse I wanted to commit suicide, but no.
Well I did send it in yesterday via UPS and it'll be back no later than 5 business days after they get it and the tune up will only cost me 45 bucks! ;v)
