yeah well basically when i turn it on it seems to be normal, but the cpu fan seems to be spinning way faster than normal, the screen stays black with a "no signal" thing and it never get's past that, any ideas on what the problem is? the pc has had some overheating issues in the past. its a intel core 2 quad Q6600 if that helps.

Good to hear that. Usually that could be a bad sign :(

Could be a plug touching the wrong port
i.e. Microphone plug touching USB port
    (might crash pc)

No signal = pc is off or not booting.
No beeps = pc is off or not booting.
Fan spinning and no signal/beeps = pc is not booting due to booting issue.

Must have been some grounding issue (some short-circuit somewhere). Good that you solved it. Figure out how you fixed it, because you might encounter it again.
