Let me preface by saying my warranty has expired 3 months ago, and I take pretty good care of my DS lite or so I thought.

My Ds screen goes white if i touch the touchscreen's bottom half. Some Darker colored objects in the game will still vaguely show up. (So it doesn't turn completely white) Its like something is jacking up the contrast. When it will sometimes go back to normal, otherwise I found lightly pressing the DS at the very bottom can fix it temporarily.

Can someone tell me what is the problem is in an attempt to fix it? It should be cheaper than buying a new DS. I seen a few videos on youtube, and priced parts at a website. Hoping for some semi-expert advice to steer me in the right direction.

I think the screen has reached its limit. Just as suggestion, it would be better if you change it, and see what happens.

Could it be something with the Backlight? As it affects both screens. Both my screens go white.

So it's both of them? I thought it was only the bottom one.Maybe that's the problem.

It seems to trigger only near the bottom 1/3 of the bottom segment of the DS. (basically below the direction and ABXY buttons. I have been using a rumble pack.. Could something have vibrated loose?

Sorry I guess I should have been more clear in my original post.

Hmmm... What happens when you press down in a non-ds game like a gba game? Does it still go white?

Maybe something is loose. I also have the problem, and I'm sure that's the cause, but haven't been able to repair it (don't have the tools).

Yes it still turns white when I play a GBA game in the slot. It will also do it in the Orignal DS menu area on boot up. I believe its purely mechanical and not software.

However on further review, IT seems the Bigger GBA cartridge helps, as it does it ALOT less. (perhaps its something in the general bottom area of the DS?)

    Well Hello There,
The problem seems to be with the backlight.
This is a straight forward fix.

    You will need:
A Tri Wing Screwdriver (Buy at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tri-Wing-Screwdriver-for-Nintendo-DS-%2f-DS-LITE-%2f-WII_W0QQitemZ230351460654QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=288810591260a0e204670147fffc7504 )
    A Replacement backlight (Buy At: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DS-LITE-TFT-LCD-BOTTOM-SCREEN-BACK-LIGHT-UK-SELLER_W0QQitemZ290328787024QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN?hash=item4398f1b850 )

    They come to around £13.
