Ever since I joined romU, I always wondered how people dumped games... While I have yet to figure out how they did the original cart's (nes, snes, etc) I have found the many various software tools to rip and play these games... I've located tools for gba, ds, ps2/ps1 (the easiest), pc , psp and currently gamecube dumping... Each one has given a different challenge, from file sizes to mearly testing them, so far the hardest I found is gamecube... There are a few different tools, but each requires a cable (cat 5 cross over) and a gamecube broadband adaptor, and the various software tools. I attempted to try the "phatasy star online episode 1 and 2" trick, by setting up your gamecube to think that one's pc is the game server, you can apparently load homebrew tools and or simply rip gc games... Sadly my laptop struggled just getting a connection to the gamecube, let alone it actually working, my assumption is the tools were NOT made for vista But then thanks to a site I shan't name, I located another, easier tool... GCOM.23 for xeno gc (my mod chip), it's a bootable gc iso that can load .dol files (homebrew software etc), boot game backup (rips) disc or make new rips... Sure I still had to configure the ip adresses, but it was easier and i finally got the gc streaming data ar 2.3MB's! So far only "wwe day of reckoning" had a problem-the gamecube froze trying to load it up, however the same disc that helped create it also helped load it back onto the system again, sure it took 10 mins for the system to finnally read it, and requires the 2 disc to be constantly swapped, but it did work, and quite well infact... It then occur to me-other than ps2/ps1 games all of my software used the actual system in question to do the dumping! It's amazing what people can do with the right software BTW-the easiest tool to just find is nero and or img burn for ps2/ps1/pc games (but many pc games have copy right protection and thus alot harder to do..I'm still figuring out how to get thru ) but by far the hardest is the gamecube tools-everyone seems to prefer the wii version rippers (because it's a simple app that sends the game wirelessly-it's faster as well)...as well as to just find-I spent the last 6 months trying to obtain information on the phatasy star exploit, let alone the stroke of luck that landed me the boot disc I now use.. So, anyone else have any interesting stories...or questions? (Not that I am currently still keeping my backups...well most of the ones I bother to play XD) (TO MODS-PLEASE DELETE asap IF THIS BREACHES ANY RULES-AS I NEVER SAW THIS TO BE AN ISSUE)
Re: My adventure\\\'s in game dumping... But not as you think... Resident evil 5 has a seriel code JUST to play online. Me and a friend experimented, I gave him my official disc and it worked without a hitch, while I have yet to try online both our copies seem to work. But burning the disc would be another story-I wonder how they do that on those torrented games... Post Merge: [time]1258121665[/time] Oh I forgot to mention... The pc one's I dumped are mainly budget rehashes like resident evil 3, tony hawk 2, and condemned (It seems the budget range was easy enough to copy..) Post Merge: [time]1258202637[/time] Looks like I found one game that refuses to be dumped... Gran turismo 4 (ps2) It requires a dual layer disc...but won't go past the copy right screen...this is a new challenge-one I have to solve without wasting disc
Here's a new one. Don'y bother dumping copied games... Found a dodgy copy of the world ends with you, I dumped that...8mb...didn't work XD
I attempted to upload the (E) rom of ridge racer ds the other night... Because it's simerlar to the (U) release, Seph rejected it... I could upload to the trading section, but who'd care It was just a test for me, I tried media fire (the progress bar was inaccurate and ate my uploads when I wasn't uploading) and rapid share (easier to upload than to download XD). I now know the process for uploading to romU-now I just need to get the rom's before the other's do!
