Ok so anyone know which is better for youtube? AVI or MPEG?

    Comparing both formats

-File size? which one takes up more space?

-which has better quality? for viewing.

Also, this is a noob question, but if I took the raw file from either one and tried making one HD which would serve better?

neither. youtube converts the file to FLV, which is completely shit quality.

AVI is a container format, the actual video could be encoded with anything (even MPEG).

You cant increase the quality of a video. If the quality isn't there to start with, it will never be there. Anything you do will just make it worse.

Avi Is Much Easier, Has Better Quility and overall just much better than Mpeg.

But AVI can be one of any number of encoded video types. (And like loony said, even Mpeg).

ok, well I just tried my RAW AVI file on my sony vegas and never had a problem with the AVI video's lagging in sony vegas, till a few months later when I Accidentally deleted the Settings for my video's and now I made new template settinings and Sony vegas is making the AVI video's laggy, but when I try MPEG video's it doesnt lag at all? what could be the problem? since I used AVI? and now it's laggy.

By the way I wasn't sure if I should make a new topic related to the AVI lagging or not.

This is entirely false. AVI requires you to have the correct codec installed, which means you need to know what codec it is encoded with. AVI files are generally encoded in divx or xvid, both of which are far inferior quality to mpeg.

    So Mpeg is better?

bigger file sizes, but easier to work with and better quality.

depends what you're wanting. best quality is uncompressed, best quality/filesize tradeoff is ogg theora or h.264

Ok, Cool. what about MPEG2? my capture card only allows me to record with Mpeg one and two, but I used to use AVI, and I heard Mpeg4 is better then both, but thanks for clearing this up for me.

    Mpeg2 is what DVD uses.
