Mortality or Immortality?

Science has been so advance nowadays that scientists are developing anti-aging potions or creams. They are discovering medicines that prolongs life, and that natural death seems to be impossible in some cases.

What do you prefer, to be a mortal and just live what time you are given?, Or prolong it, and even stop death from occurring like a immortal?

As for me, i dont like to be immortal, because i dont want to see my love ones dying before i do. Maybe if had supernatural powers like god, i would like it to be immortal so i can change everything from worse to better.

Physical immortality isn't feasible yet, not by a long shot from what I read. But if it does happen, I would choose to be mortal. There would be no point in life without death. But let's not get into the theist/atheist debate though.

none of the anti-ageing stuff has been proven to work; it's just bullshit from cosmetics companies trying to sell stuff.

    first a few off-topic comments:
hmm..lets not go for the supernatural powers, coz if someone like you can have it, then why can't everyone else have it too. Imagine a world like that of a manga - a story like naruto and bleach where people live to enhance their "supernatural" powers. and i doubt that you can change everything from worse to better. the happiness of others can become the sorrow of another.

This reminds me of a booklet i read written by a guru of sort regarding the concept of dying. According to him everyone is dying from the moment they were born, some just go faster than the others. Its a pretty reasonable statement. Maybe its not the fear of seeing them go, but the fear of what comes after - solitude.

    Back to the topic

This reminds me of a script from the cartoon "superman". In the episode where he found out that braniac destroys worlds, and he asked why he did so, braniac answered:

"The fewer there is, the more precious"

The value of life is determined by its limit, by removing that limit you also eliminate the value, so i guess i'll go with the same answer as BloodVayne - MORTALITY!. Immortality can give you an opporunity to learn infinite knowledge but for what?

To be mortal as well, but with a better immune system so you can live out your life to the fullest, but not be hampered by triffle things like colds, fevers or not so fatal illnesses.

    I like to be mortal.

I'm sure over the years I simply couldn't bear to be immortal and would seek mortality.

    Everything needs to end someday.

    Those are superficial.

I would choose Mortal. There's simply too much pain (both physical and psychological) to endure. And nope, I'm not THAT masochist.

hmm..we find so many good reasons not to accept immortality from books, comics, magazines, and films. I think it would make a pretty interesting turn if the questions be revised and ask "What are you willing to trade to accept the curse that is immortality?"

Physical immortality is torture until you reach your limit of caring about your close ones dying (which would possibly be more than 100), then it becomes meaningless until the death of the universe which by then you'd be mindless and twitching and floating in a black void.

I want to be immortal. Life is very precious to me, I have a fear of dying however I also have a fear of losing my loved ones. Its a dilemma

isn't the fact that your "love ones" are mortal is what makes them precious?. They can die any time, thats why you treasure them. Imagine if your "love ones" are sturdy like a god, immune to all diseases, and is not bound by time. Why would they be precious?

i'd hate to live forever or even a double life span.
not from loosing the ones around me although that would be sad, it would be that its boring and i hate the world as it is so living in it longer then i need to just seems nuts.
as long as i can see my son grow in to a man and teach him how to be one after that i couldn't care about my life past that.

    Well said equity :D

I bet you can't wait to teach your son what it means to be a man right? Especially the "hardcore" stuff & though it might pain you, I bet you'll be very happy when you find out that he scores way better than you by then ;D

Isn't that what good parents (yes there are also awful parents out there) only ever want out of their children? To be able to see them grow up to be the best they can be!

Giving them the best out of life, health & Education is only an obligation, but to see them knowing who they are in this f***ked up world & knowing what are their individual strengths & weaknesses & using these to become a functional part of society is the best thing they can ever get out of life :)

lol. like seriously, who the hell says we have to die ? come on people ! i will be immortal, thats what i believe. those people who said immortality is a curse, hmph, god is immortal dammit , what do you think he feels ? ask any person whos close to 90-100 years old, ask them what their life has been like, and ask them if they think its time for them to die ! you know the answer already

if you are rich (billionair rich), you wont mind being an immortal, but if you are poor, being an immortal is a curse.

btw IIRC there is 2 type of immortality.
    - immortality:- your body simple dont die, but you will growth old, your body will weaken, but your body just simply wont die.
    - eternal youth:- your body will stop aging and will continue to recover and repair it self when ever its damaged(better version of healing factor)

true..its hard to describe the value of that which is yet or never will be attained by man. Oh, and can you please explain explicitly why you'd like to be immortal? your statement interest me.

Hm, if i was the perfect soldier, never age, indestructible, never gets weak or sick, has the ability to use every known weapon, technique, arts, and technology... yeah, immortality for me.

Hm, inf money, people that will obey my every whim? whose loyalty will always to me, I would really like immortality.

not so likely. If you have the possibility of immortality, whats stopping others from having the same? Whats stopping an immortal from killing another immortal that seeks for dominion?.

hm, if i'm immortal, then i couldn't be killed right? then there will be an eternal war, i like that, an eternal battle between an immortal with another immortal. its like playing tekken with both of you fighting has Inf health.. hehehe

and what i said above is my choice for my own immortality.if others have the same immortality like i do, then have fun with their immortlity. we could share it, or have that eternal battle. lol
