Well, I guess now is a good time to ask around, so what kinds of monitors do you guys/gals recommend?

I'm moving from an old BBQ'd 19" dell p90 CRT, so I've no experience in what to look for other than high contrast ratio, low response time of under 5ms, but all this crap about brand of the LCD panel itself, ""cd/m2", "DC 10000", etc. is confusing, I feel like I'm trying too hard to understand this crap. XD

My preference would be bigger than 19", have at least a dvi port, maybe a dvi port,
I'm currently looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001281
"SAMSUNG TOC T260HD Rose Black 25.5" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1(1000:1) Build in TV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Sound - Retail"

Looks big enough for gaming and movies, but the price tag is a bit blah, IMO.
I guess any advice/pointers would be of help to this LCD newbie, so thanks in advance.

Samsungs are very high quality, I would reccomend them any day. Viewsonic are also very good.

@loonylion Yeah, I've seen some viewsonic monitors around, but not enough to have a proper opinion of them, I've wanted a Samsung for a while now, and am willing to keep shopping around a bit more in the hopes of shaving a bit more off the final price, even if it means grabbing the non tv tuner model(if newegg would carry it)
My only reason for preferring newegg, is the bit about getting my orders in about 3 business days(5 hours away from their warehouse FTW)

Hmm...looks like the 24" has better pricing, may as well go with that.

    *EDIT*
Well, now these reviews for the monitors have gone all crap on me, now I doubt my choice of monitor XD

Are you using the monitor almost only for gaming ? Or just office and internet use ? Almost 98% of the internet site's i know are using the height instead of the wide . So if you are using it almost for internet and sometimes a game i should look for a 19 inch 1280x1024 monitor , i got one at home and i can internet and playing games perfect , only watching movies all little bit meh

if you are looking for one that you are gonna use the most for games and movies , i should look for a wide model . I should get one with a LED screen , because the black color is better on LEDS . Also LED's uses less power . Also make sure the reaction time is under 5MS , everyting higer will al be blur during a action scene .

LG and Samsung are good choises .

I found this one , this one is a safe chose , highly recommended

I've been hearing odd things about LG and their LCD monitors, mostly about lots of stuck pixels

I think it might just be this last quarter's batch, I guess.

A CRT rather than a LCD. CRT may have a warmup period but it does black as black and that really helps to avoid eye strain.

I know, but I don't want something that's going to weigh more than my 40lbs+ tower XD
Also, I just went with a 24" Samsung from Newegg, says I'll have it before Thursday.

LOL, My dad has a Sansung SyncMaster 2253LW. It's okay, plays movies great and it's widescreen. What sucks is that he doesn't play games. That monitor would be better on my PC, even though it's slow (read my post about how slow/crappy my PC is!).

I personally have had a bad experience with my Samsung monitor. After some use, a horizontal black line of pixels went across my screen. That gradually grew to three or four lines by the time I replaced it with something else.

lol, well, as long as it lasts at least 2 years, I should be ok.
but if it goes the way of my CRT, then I'm in trouble XD

well any good gaming computer must have less than 2 millisecond time delay, the size is your choice... anything more than 2ms will wreak havoc on your mind
