i hope i am in the correct section.i already discussed this and had a reply from loony but i guess loony had in mind of the newer modem versions.i got a PSTN modem that supports wifi although i am not familiar with the terms so i dont know if its moddable.the reason i am asking is cause i ve spent the past couple of days on boosting speed applications and i saw in many videos forums that the only good or so called good is the modem booster.and here is the trick.modem booster is an offer from the romulation affiliate for buying a premium account here.so can i have your tech opinions on whether my internet would be lets say raised from approx 200-500kbs to at least 800?i am gonna donate in any way for romulation once i sell enuff staff on diablo 3 but i wanted to know if its viable to use that booster.so once again my modem is a PSTN version Annex A ZXV10 H108L version.(correct me if thats not the modem version xD). so hoping for a response since i am kinda tired searching 1000 pages of google results xD <3

that is a broadband modem, not a dial up modem. the booster will not work Even with a dial up modem it wouldn't make anywhere near the amount of difference you are wanting.

Go into the modem configuration and get me the following information:

    Sync rate (upstream and downstream)
    SNR ratio(s)
    line attenuation
    MTU
    modulation

Then I will be able to work out if your line can get any more than it is.

btw just realised that i might be tricked and not have broadband.isnt broadband supposed to deliver the exact amount of the speed ur speed test says?for example i get on speed test 2mbp/s download but i only download with 200kb/s real speed...i am really confused and at the same time paying for 40 euro per month for this speed i feel like i am gettin ripped off :(

nope that isn't it. It's somewhere in the modem web pages. I've found forums showing the information I want from other people with the same modem and ISP as you, so the information is there somewhere, but they don't say how to find it. Can you give me a screenshot of the status page?

i am 1000% sure i am gettin ripped off. i read some articles about broadband and ptsn.broadband giving high speeds while phone line techic gives approx up to 56kb/s. so i might be a noob but with my internet speed which is at the best with internet download manager and premium account 390kb/s there is surely something going on o_O and thus i have my hopes high that the modem booster might actually work?!

thats before u replied. status page u mean the 192.168+bla bla?

I think you might be a little bit confused about how speeds are measured.

Dial up gives a maximum connection speed of 53kbits/second, while broadband can go much higher. Download speeds (i.e when downloading a file) are measured in kbytes/second, which is a different unit. 1 byte = 8 bits. So while dial up has a maximum connection speed of 53kbit/s, the maximum speed at which you can download a file is about 5kBytes/second. If you are downloading files at about 390kBytes/second, your connection speed is roughly 3500kbits/second, or 3.5Mbits/second.

well i am overall confused since i live in greece :) the isps tell us we either choose 2mb/s adsl or "UP TO 24" and u get the speed that u are getting. its the only country in the european union where the isps dont provide the exact speed they gettin paid for. i live in the suburbans the most rich area of athens yet our speed sucks :) i am a huge fan of warez/downloads/games and i am a mind that wont stop at nothing.currently working on a greek news website and everyday i make approx 30 articles.so i guess it was about time i woke up concerning my internet speed.sooo back to speed.the 2mb/s provided u pay around 9 euro per month+telephone line

but for up to 24 mbps u pay 34.99 per month. compared to the wages thats a lot and its not even close to the amount it should have been providing.:/

I pay for up to 24mbit as well, and only get 3.5mbit. The speed you get depends on the quality of your phone line and how long it is.

thanks loony for the time u spent on helping me sort this out.i decided i will stick to 350kb/s its just that the feeling of people downloading with crazy speeds overcomes me and i am a well known collector on some other forums :p cheers
