hey, its me again, the dude with the limited or no connectivity problem. im now having a new problem on the same toshiba laptop (figures..) So when I went to turn the computer back on, it wouldn't boot and would say the "windows/system32/config/system file is missing or corrupt. You can attempt to repair this file be starting windows setup using origional setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." i looked in google and all the solutions i found was requiring the cd, which i dont have. one guy said to put it on safe mode and run system restore. but when i tried all 3 safe modes (normal, with networking, with command prompt) it just restarted and going back to the missing corrupted thing. i even tried all the options in F8 and did the same thing. I don't know what to do, and i have no idea how this happened. i was just doing my homework, i noticed i lost my connection so i restarted it and this popped out. someone please help me :'(
To put this bluntly: System 32 is a Windows OS's core. Without System 32, it is basically useless. There is no way to fix this without a complete re installation of the OS or a new OS through a CD. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I'm wrong.
aaaaw, i was afraid someone would say that :'(. can i buy the cd seperately? and which one should i get?
Being that it's a laptop, you will find it difficult to get it running from a complete install of a new OS. You will need the original CDs for the drivers for the laptop components. They can be problematic to find without the CD. (Not impossible, just a pain in the ass).
is it possible to buy the cd separately? and which one do i buy the original cd or those recovery cd i saw some people state. or should i just buy a new one?
You could contact Toshiba about it. Give them the Model number of the laptop, and probably the Serial Number. They'd be able to provide you with the best help.
you might be able to get the drivers online from someone else's computer if you have to do a complete reinstall... but just make sure you get the right ones. see if they got what you need... here's a link for toshiba http://www.csd.toshiba.com/ the drivers should be free.. 99% of them are for other brands it sounds like you got a virus or something, since ive never seen a file do that just out of the blue as for saving your homework i'd recommend getting an external HDD (preferably a Western Digital mine is lovely and no problems for over a year) for your school work, and install/copy everything for school on it as well for backup proposes nothing worse than losing that shit believe me..
how come i can't find Satellite model no. A100-SK4 i picked Laptop > Satellite > (can't find A100-SK4) in downloads
I looked for you and in the forums at Toshiba someone posted the same question, look for it at Toshiba Canada
i would get all of them and put them on a usb flashdrive (if you got one) just in-case it does happen again.. i have all the drivers for my PC on a usb flashdrive...it's worth it even if you only use them one time after this haha, especially if it happens at like 3am and you dont have access to a pc with internet
ok, thanks a lot i will be downloading them tomorrow after i get my cd later (i was lucky enough that my friend have the disk)
