Create a new world and see if it freezes then. Maybe your world save is corrupted? (You don't have to delete the current world, just create a new one).

Turn down your distance render to Normal or lower. I've had minecraft crash on me if I set it to Far and start walking around.

Did it help the crashing? Or have you not yet tried?

It's really the only time I've had minecraft crash on me, when set to Far, the game renders too many 'chunks' when you go into an un-rendered area and would crash with an error log.

I haven't used any of the programs, I just walk around. Usually I find quite a few by accident.

You can use Minutor to look through the layers of the map.

Like square rooms. There will be mossy cobblestone in them as well.

Does that ruin the fun of the game.

Yeah. In a way it does. I don't like doing it. I just helped my brothers with it because they didn't know how to use the program...

The only time that I've used it, was to find my way back to my glass house. I popped up in the middle of a bay a few minutes away from it. :p
