Micro SD card died?

    Hello

Just got some nice EDGE card with 8 GB SanDisk.
Apparently the first time inserted into the PC it did work, then after that time it doesn't.
    Explorer freezes.
When I get the reader out, it gives me some message about "not being able to save data to the card".

The EDGE reads the card fine.

What's the issue, and better, how can I solve it?

You could either try another adapter, or try putting it into another device to see if it works. In my experience though, that usually means the MicroSD is so corrupt that nothing can really fix it. It can still be read by certain devices, but will inevitably screw up. It sounds like you got a bum MicroSD card.

Both of my readers do the same.

The micro SD card was not used for circa 4 months, something to do with that?

Also the EDGE plays games fine.

It is an odd issue. When my computer reacted that way to a MicroSD card, it turned out to be corrupt. Nothing in my house that uses a MicroSD could read it, and a cellphone that could use a MicroSD wouldn't even fully boot up until I removed the card. I assume you have PC, so have you tried plugging it in to a Mac to format it? Have you tried plugging it in to all the different USB's on your computer? It is worth trying anything you can.

I just read somewhere for someone who couldn't get it to read at all that they just left the adapter plugged in when they started the computer and it was readable by their computer at that point. I suppose that is something to try. I'll see what I can find in the way of better solutions though.

Then this laptop will start checkdisk and that will crash it...no option.

BTW it gives a sound like some USB device is plugged in...

Unless you can find a computer that can read it to format it, it is dead. As I said before, the only times this has happened to me was when the memory device was corrupted beyond all repair (I had a similar issue with a corrupt 20gb iPod hard drive).

So, it's still giving you problems?

Can you backup your data or anything?

    If so, then format it.

Nope...it doesn't give an "Removable Disk" icon.

When I get the Micro SD card out it gives the icon for a second.

As I said, every device reads it fine. It's just the laptop that doesn't read it.

Perhaps an issue with the OS or a virus?...I don't think it would be a virus though.
    Not sure then.

Nope no virus...the last thing I did was install EDGE OS 1.10.

Hey YoshiFlip, is it that your micro SD card can be read by some devices while some cannot? I don't think is a virus, well for me, my card acts that way once last time as i accidentally overheat the card on a adapter, luckily, my card was saved by the adapter but started to have the same problem as you. Well, i couldn't fixed it and i just keep the card away, few months later i took it out and hope it work and it does for some unknown reason ;D I suggest you buy a new card but that is just my opinion

But the card is read by other devices...why buy a whole new card?

Because he can no longer add to it? It is pretty much stuck with exactly what it has at this point. Kind of useless.

But from my understanding, he can read/write to the card from other computers.
It's his laptop that's giving him trouble.

He never said another computer could read it. I suggested trying a Mac, but that was a no go. I don't think this thread would exist if he could have just as easily made it read elsewhere.
